Zé Sérgio is professionally a former football player. He played as a striker in soccer games. He played for the club São Paulo from 1977 to 1984. Following this, he joined the club Santos from 1984 to 1986.

He then played for Vasco da Gama from 1986 to 1987. Finally, he ended his soccer career in Japan J-League with Kashiwa Reysol. He played for this team from 1989 till 1991. Likewise, He also became the team’s manager in the year 1995.

He also won one Brazilian League in the year 1977. Along with this, he also won two São Paulo State Leagues in the years 1980 and 1981 respectively. He then went on to win Campeonato Paulista in the year 1984 at the Santos FC.

Moreover, he won one Rio de Janeiro State League in the year 1987. Later, for the Brazil national football team, the player also won 25 international caps between May 1978 and May 1981. After retiring as a professional football player, he has helped manage several football teams. He was the manager of the team Kashiwa Reysol from 1993 to 1995.
