Zab Judah is a retired professional boxer from the United States. Zab Judah is one of the most talented boxers from his era. During his boxing career from 1996 to 2019, he has won multiple championships such as IBF, WBO junior welterweight, undisputed welterweight, IBF junior welterweight, and the lineal champion.
Early Life and Childhood
Zabdiel Judah, better known as Zab Judah was born on the 27th of October 1977, in Brownsville, Brooklyn, New York City, New York, the United States.
Currently, he is 45 years old and has a zodiac sign of Scorpio. He is an American citizen and belongs to African-American ethnicity. Additionally, he was born Jewish but later turned into Christian.
He was born to the former boxer Yoel Judah and his mother Katherine Judah. Since his childhood day, he has been interested in boxing, growing up seeing his father boxing.
Talking about his siblings, he has a total of 11 siblings; 9 brothers, and 2 sisters. Among these siblings, three brothers named Daniel, Joseph, and Josiah are also professional boxers. Meanwhile, he has not disclosed the educational institution names he attended.
Professional Career
At the age of six, Zab Judah started competing in the ring. On the 20th of September 1996, he made his professional debut in Miami, Florida, and defeated Michael Johnson by technical knockout in the second round. At the time, he was just 18 years old.
In May 1999, he competed against Esteban Flores. Due to an accidental butted head with Flores in the fight, Flores was cut on his forehead, and the match was halted in the third round. Meanwhile, the match was listed as a technical draw but later it was changed to a no-contest in May 1999.
Then he won the USBA Light Welterweight title after defeating Micky Ward by unanimous decision. On 15 October 1998, he successfully defended the USBA title by stopping Darryl Tyson in the eleventh round.
Similarly, he won the Interim IBF Light Welterweight title in January 1999 after defeating Wilfredo Negron with a fourth-round knockout. In February 2000, he defeated Jan Piet Bergman to win the vacant IBF Light Welterweight title. Later on, he defended his BF Light Welterweight title against other boxers like Junior Witter, Terron Millett, Hector Quiroz, Reggie Green, and Allan Vester.
First professional defeat
He tasted his first professional defeat on November 3, 2001, against Tsyzu for the Undisputed Light Welterweight Championship. He lost the match as a technical knockout. Moreover, he was fined $100,000 and suspended for six months after misbehaviour to Tsyzu by The Nevada State Athletic Commission.
He won by split decision, defeating DeMarcus Corley for the WBO Light Welterweight title on 12 July 2003. On 13 December 2003, he defended the WBO title against Jaime Rangel, knocking out Rangel in the first round.
Meanwhile, he was defeated by Cory Spinks for the Undisputed Welterweight Championship on 10 April 2004. Meanwhile, Spinks defeated Judah by unanimous decision with scores of 114-112 twice and 116-112.
On 5 February 2005, he got a rematch with Spinks for the same title. In this time, he won the match and became the new Undisputed Welterweight Champion. His defeat to Carlos Baldomir on January 7, 2006, was named the 2006 upset of the year by The Ring.
Judah vs. Mayweather
One of his much-anticipated fights against Floyd Mayweather, which took place on April 8, 2006, resulted in a fine and a year’s suspension. Roger Mayweather, Mayweather’s uncle and trainer, entered the ring shortly after the tenth round ended and approached Judah. Yoel, Judah’s father, climbed into the ring and punched Roger.

More than a dozen security and police officers arrived to deal with the situation. Mayweather won by unanimous decision. The Nevada Athletic Commission later fined Roger Mayweather $200,000 and suspended his boxing license for one year, fined Yoel Judah $100,000 and suspended his license for four months, and fined Zab Judah $350,000 and revoked his license for one year.
Returned after suspension
Judah returned to the ring on April 13, 2007, against Ruben Galvan. Meanwhile, the match was called off due to a bad cut near the top of Galvan’s head. Match against boxer Ryan Davis in November 2007, he won the match by unanimous decision winning the vacant IBC Light Middleweight title.
On August 2, 2008, he was defeated by Joshua Clottey in a technical decision for the vacant IBF Welterweight title. He went on to defeat Ernest Johnson, Ubaldo Hernandez, and Jose Armando Santa Cruz. On November 6, 2010, he defeated Lucas Matthysse in a split decision for the vacant regional NABO Light Welterweight title.
He won the vacant IBF Light Welterweight title by technical knockout over Kaizer Mabuza on March 5, 2011. In July 2011, he suffered his seventh career defeat when he was defeated by WBA (Super) champion Amir Khan.
Return to Ring and announced retirement
In January 2017, he returned to the ring after a three-year absence. He won by TKO over journeyman Jorge Luis Munguia. In January 2018, he defeated Mexican Noel Mejia Rincon.
Cletus Seldin stopped Zab Judah, age 41, in the eleventh round of a scheduled 12-round fight for the vacant NABA Super Lightweight title on June 7, 2019, after seventeen months of inactivity. Judah collapsed after the fight and was taken to the hospital to be treated for a brain bleed, effectively ending his boxing career. He was later discharged from the hospital and fully recovered.

Zab Judah married his girlfriend Christina Judah. With the marriage, the couple is blessed with seven children; Mimi, Amissia, Zabirah, Destiny, Zab, Preston, and Princeto. Previously, Judah was in a relationship with Hencha Voigt but the couple is known to have broken up.

In July 2006, he was arrested on suspicion of being involved in a fight at New York’s Stereo nightclub. He was also charged with domestic violence in 2016 and imprisoned in 2017 for failing to pay child support.
