Yandy Chirino was a late American Police Officer. Yandy Chirino was shot and killed after responding to reports of a suspicious person pulling on door handles in the 4000 block of North Hills Drive at 10:30 pm on the 17th of October 2021.

Early Life

Yandy Chirino opened his eyes in 1993, in Havana, Cuba. When he was just 10 years old, his family migrated to Miami and he became a United States citizen. He became an enterprise account specialist with the Association of Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialists (ACAMS) in November 2014. Moreover, he was hired as an ACAMS client relationship specialist in February 2016.

Additionally, he joined the Hollywood Police Department in 2017. Between 2017 and 2021, he received five supervisor’s commendations as a Hollywood Police Department officer. He was the Hollywood Police Department’s Officer of the Month in June 2020.

On October 17, 2021, he responded to a report on North Hills Drive in Hollywood in which Jason Banegas, then 18, was allegedly caught on camera riding around on a bicycle, going car to car, and checking for unlocked doors. Banegas allegedly shot him after an altercation.

He was transported to Memorial Regional Hospital by his squad mates in a black and white police vehicle with little time to spare. The hospital staff worked tirelessly on Officer Chirino. Unfortunately, Chirino died from his injuries on October 18th, 2021.

The defendant was charged with burglary, assault on a law enforcement officer, concealing a firearm, grand larceny of a firearm, resisting arrest with violence, and first-degree murder.

His body was escorted in a motorcycle-led procession from Memorial Regional Hospital to the Broward Medical Examiner’s Office in Dania Beach, Broward County, Florida, on October 18, 2021.
