He participated in sixteen games for Metallurg Magnitogorsk during the 2013–14 season, his first season in the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL). With 41 games played for the squad, Kamenev finished the 2014–15 KHL season with Metallurg Magnitogorsk.

After playing with Metallurg Magnitogorsk for his first complete KHL season in 2014–15, Kamenev decided to follow his dreams of playing in the National Hockey League (NHL).
Further, on July 10, 2015, he signed a three-year entry-level contract with the Nashville Predators.
On January 6, Kamenev made his NHL debut against the Florida Panthers following his recall from the Milwaukee Admirals by the Predators.
In addition, he has competed for Russia in several international competitions. A few are the Yarmouth-hosted World U17 Hockey Challenge 2013 when the squad took home the silver medal.
