Thus, this destroyed the Indian Air Force Airstrips. It took an hour to get the airstrip repaired. So that, it can get operational for the ongoing war.
Additionally, the task seemed to be impossible due to less time. And, due to the lack of workers for the restoration of the runway.
Similarly, Karnik took charge of Bhuj Airport. he decided to take the help of the locals of Bhuj to rebuild the airstrip.
To help the Indian Army, he convinced 300 local women of the village of Madhapur. Due to the bombing by opponents, it became more difficult to rebuild the airstrip.
However, he along with the other 2 senior officers, tried to make the airstrip operational. Finally, due to the efforts of 300 women airstrip was restored within 72 hours.
Later, the War was successfully ended. Then, the whole operation of rebuilding the airstrip was named Pearl Harbour Moment of India.
Later, PM appreciated the efforts of all 300 women. And, they were awarded a group award of Rs 50,000 by the government.
Vijay Karnik – Career
On May 26, 1962, Vijay Karnik was assigned to the Indian Air Force. Thus, he served as a Squadron Leader in Bhuj during the Indo-Pakistani War, in 1971.
He fought the Indo-Pakistani War, in 1965, and the Sino-India War, in 1962. Therefore, he is known for his contribution to the Indo-Pakistan War. Vijay was posted to 6 Squadron at Pune, in 1967.
On October 1, 1985, he was promoted as Wing Commander. Later, he was retired from his service on October 14, 1986. Therefore, a film has been made in his life story.
And, the film was titled Bhuj The Pride of India. Therefore, the film started Ajay Devgan in the lead.
