Uma Thurman is a popular American actress and former model. Uma Thurman was best recognized for her performance as Mia Wallace in Quentin Tarantino’s 1994 film Pulp Fiction.
Early Life
Thurman was born Uma Karuna Thurman on April 29, 1970, in Boston, Massachusetts. She is 53 years old. Her father is Robert Thurman and he is a professor of Indo-Tibetan Buddhist Studies and an author.
Her mother is Nena von Schlebrügge who is a high-fashion model. Furthermore, she has three brothers, Ganden, Dechen Karl, and Mipam, and a half-sister named Taya, from her father’s previous marriage.
Moreover, she received a Buddhist upbringing and spent altogether around two years in a town in the Northern-Indian state of Uttarakhand in Almora. She grew up mostly in Amherst, Massachusetts, where she attended Amherst Regional Junior High School. Later, this actress moved to Woodstock, New York.
However, she went to Amherst Public Schools, where she discovered her love of acting in eighth grade. At 14, she joined Northfield Mount Hermon School, a preparatory school in Massachusetts. There, talent scouts noticed her performance as Abigail in a production of The Crucible and offered her the chance to act professionally.
Career
Uma has been interested in acting and modeling since her school days. This interest led her to New York City for high school and modeling work as she sought acting roles. The roles soon came, beginning with a few formulaic and forgettable Hollywood products.
But, she was immediately followed by Terry Gilliam’s The Adventures of Baron Munchausen and Stephen Frears’ Dangerous Liaisons in 1988. These both brought much attention to her unorthodox sensuality and performances that combined innocence and worldliness.
This actress continued to be offered good roles in Hollywood pictures into the early ’90s. The least commercially successful but probably best-recognized role of June in Henry & June in 1990. This was the first movie to receive the dreaded NC-17 rating in the USA.
Then, in 1993, her career stalled in the early ’90s with movies such as The mediocre Mad Dog and Glory. Moreover, she played her role in Even Cowgirls Get the Blues which was her first starring role. However, it had endured a tortured journey from a cult-favorite book to a big-budget movie and was a critical and financial debacle.
Fortunately, this beautiful actress returned with a brilliant performance as Mia Wallace in Pulp Fiction in 1994. However, it was hugely successful and she received an Academy Award nomination for her amazing performance in this movie.

Since then, she also played various roles in many films such as A Month by the Lake, Beautiful Girls, and The Truth About Cats & Dogs. Moreover, she returned to smaller films after playing the villainess Poison Ivy in the reviled Joel Schumacher effort Batman & Robin in 1997 and Emma Peel in a remake of The Avengers in 1998.
In 1999, this actress worked with Woody Allen and Sean Penn on Sweet and Lowdown. She also starred in Richard Linklater’s drama Tape in 2001 opposite Hawke. However, she won a Golden Globe award for her role in the TV film named Hysterical Blindness in 2002 and it was directed by Mira Nair.
Also, she turned up in the John Woo Cautioner Paycheck that same year. Moreover, she garnered critical acclaim for her work in a martial arts film named Kill Bill: Volume 2 and was hailed as Tarantino’s muse in 2004.
