Tota Roy Chowdhury was born Pushparag Roy Choudhury on July 9, 1976, in Kolkata, West Bengal, India. His age is currently 46 years old (as of 2023). He was born to his father Tilak Chakraborty and his mother Mahua Roy Choudhury. Likewise, he holds Indian nationality but his ethnicity is unknown. Early Career
He decided to join the Indian Army during his second year of college and was getting ready for the CDS exams when destiny stepped in and the director Prabhat Roy asked him to play a small part in his film.
This one movie led to additional offers, and he quickly made the decision to turn professional. Rituparno Ghosh noticed him after he appeared in a few financially lucrative movies and cast him opposite Nandita Das in his movie Shubho Mahurat.
Breakthrough
In Rituparno’s Tagore adaptation, Chokher Bali, Chowdhury was paired up once more with Aishwarya Rai. He received several honours, including the Best Actor BFJA Award.
Following Chokher Bali, he appeared in a number of mainstream and commercial movies, including Aborto, Biye Not Out, Choukaath, Benche Thakaar Gaan, Bolo Na Tumi Amaar, Paglu-2, Villain, and Shapath, solidifying his reputation in the Bengali film industry as a dependable performer and one of the very few actors adored by both the upper class and the general public.
Furthermore, he made a protracted cameo in the Kaththi film, which was directed by AR Murugadoss and served as his Tamil film debut. Alongside Soumitra Chatterjee and Radhika Apte, he also starred in the short film Ahalya, which was directed by Sujoy Ghosh.
