Tiny Tim was a popular American singer, ukulele player, and musical archivist. Tiny Tim is well-known for his cover hits “Tiptoe Through the Tulips” and “Living in the Sunlight, which he sang in a falsetto voice.

Early Life and Childhood

Tiny Tim was born on April 12, 1932, in the city of Manhattan, New York, United States, and his full name was Herbert Butros Khaury.

Similarly, he was a naturalized American citizen and belonged to the Polish-Jewish ethnicity. Moreover, he was Catholic by religion and his birth sign was Aries. He was born to a textile worker Butros Khaury (father) and a garment worker Tillie (mother).

He showed his musical talent at a young age. His father gave him a vintage wind-up Gramophone and a 78-RPM record of Henry Burr’s “Beautiful Ohio” when he was five years old. He could listen to the record for hours and later he began teaching himself guitar at the age of six.

Death

Tiny Tim died on November 30, 1996, in the city of Minneapolis, Minnesota, United States at the age of 64 due to a heart attack. He was a diabetic and a heart patient. His ashes are buried in a mausoleum at Lakewood Cemetery. He had a massive fan base, and his death left many people heartbroken. However, he will live on in people’s hearts forever as a result of his extraordinary efforts.

Furthermore, he began performing at amateur dance club nights under various aliases, including Texarkana Tex, Vernon Castle, and Emmett Swink. However, in 1959, he dropped all of his previous stage names and began performing as “Larry Love, the Singing Canary” at New York City’s Times Square’s Hubert’s Museum and Live Flea Circus.

While performing there, he signed with a manager who sent him on auditions throughout New York’s Greenwich Village neighborhood, where he played the ukulele and sang the song that became his signature, “Tiptoe Through the Tulips,” in his falsetto voice.

Furthermore, in 1963, he got his first paying gig at Page 3, a gay and lesbian club in Greenwich Village, where he worked 6 hours a night, 6 nights a week for $96 per month. In addition, he also made appearances in both Jack Smith’s Normal Love and the independent feature film You Are What You Eat.
