Early Life and High School Career
Terrence Clarke was born on September 6, 2001, in Boston, Massachusetts at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. He was born to his parents Osmine Clarke (mother) and Adrian Briggs (father). Likewise, he had three siblings named Tatyana Clarke, Gavin Clarke, and Madison Clarke. He held American nationality and was born under the sun sign Virgo.
Before transferring to Brewster Academy after his freshman year, he was a student at the Rivers School in Weston, Massachusetts. He was chosen for the class B All-New England Preparatory School Athletic Council squad at Rivers. He captured the 2019 National Prep Championships at Brewster. As a senior, Clarke averaged 18.3 points, 5.8 rebounds, and three assists per game as Brewster concluded the season 34-3 before the COVID-19 epidemic ended the National Prep finals.
Recruiting
Clarke was rated as a five-star recruit by Rivals, ESPN, and 247Sports, with Rivals and 247Sports placing him as the eighth-best player and ESPN ranking him as the tenth-best player in the 2020 class. Clarke chose Kentucky over offers from Boston College, Duke, Memphis, Texas Tech, and UCLA on September 14, 2019. Additionally, he declared that he was switching to the class of 2020. Before downgrading, ESPN ranked Clarke as the second-best player in the 2021 class.
College Career
On November 25, 2020, Clarke made his college debut in an 81-45 victory over Morehead State. He finished with 12 points, four rebounds, four assists, and three steals. Clarke was only able to participate in eight games this season due to a right leg injury, seven of which were non-conference games and one of which was the SEC tournament.
In addition, he started six of those games and averaged 9.6 points, 2.6 rebounds, and two assists per contest. On December 6, 2020, Clarke scored a career-high 22 points in a game against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. He scored 77 points in 229 minutes of play to cap his collegiate career. On March 19, 2021, Clarke declared for the NBA draft instead of using up his remaining NCAA eligibility. On the day before he passed away, Clarke joined Klutch Sports Group.
Death and Tributes
After working out with teammate Brandon Boston Jr., Clarke passed away on April 22, 2021, in Los Angeles, California, from injuries sustained in a car accident. According to the Los Angeles Police Department, Clarke was traveling at a high rate of speed when he ran a red light, striking a car that was making a left turn, and then colliding with a pole and a brick wall. He wasn’t properly belted up while operating a 2021 Genesis GV80. He was 19 at the time. According to Clarke’s agent Rich Paul, he is working hard to be a lottery pick in the 2021 NBA draft. He is driven, in the best form of his life, and has grown to 6’8″.
To fulfill Clarke’s wish to be selected in the NBA draft, NBA Commissioner Adam Silver made Clarke a ceremonial selection on July 29, 2021, between the 14th and 15th picks in the 2021 NBA draft. On his behalf, his mother Osmine, brother Gavin, and sister Tatyana accepted. His mother was given an honorary Clarke jersey for the NBA’s Rising Stars Challenge at the NBA’s All-Star weekend in 2021–2022.
