Tate Donovan is a versatile and talented American actor, comedian, and television director. Tate Donovan is best known for portraying the role of Bob Anders in the movie “Argo.”

Early Life

On the 25th of September 1963, in Tenafly, New Jersey, the United States of America, Tate Donovan came into the world. His actual birth name is Tate Buckley Donovan and he holds an American nationality.

Likewise, he is 60 years old. Moreover, he has a birth sign of Libra and he has his belief in the Roman Catholic religion. Similarly, he belongs to a mixed ethnicity of Irish-German descent.

Coming to his family, he is the son of John Timothy Donovan (father) and Eileen McAllister Donovan (mother). Professionally, his father was a surgeon while his mother was a homemaker.

In 1984, Tate Donovan made his debut television appearance, appearing as Clancy in the NBC sitcom “Family Ties” and appearing in the 53rd episode ‘Best Man.’ That same year, he made his debut movie appearance in the comedy-drama film “No Small Affair.”

His few early movies are “SpaceCamp” (1986), “Clean and Sober” (1988), “Dangerous Curves” (1988), “Dead Bang” (1989), “Memphis Belle” (1990), and “Little Noises” (1992).

During that time, he continued to appear in television series “Hill Street Blues” (1985), “Magnum, P.I.” (1986), and “Tales from the Crypt” (1994). Moreover, he was seen in several episodes of the fourth season of the popular sitcom ‘Friends’ (1998) portraying the role of Joshua Burgin in the show.

After playing the role of Brent Zetterland in the 1992 independent comedy movie “Inside Monkey Zetterland.” Donovan rose to fame due to his role in the movie. He portrayed the main role of Owen in the Fox sitcom “Partners’ which was aired from 1995 to 1996.

In 1997, he lent his voice to the character of Hercules in the 1997 Disney animated musical fantasy comedy film “Hercules.” Again, in its sequel “Hercules: Zero to Hero” (1999), he was offered the same role.

Later, he made guest appearances in several television series, such as “Magnum, P.I.” (1986), “The Guardian” (2001), “Mister Sterling” (2003), “Exposed” (2003), and “The O.C.” (2003). Moreover, he also began directing episodic television when he directed an episode of “The O.C.”  For the series, he appeared in 39 episodes from 2003 to 2006.

Rise to Fame

For his role as Jesse Zousmer in the 2005 historical drama film, “Good Night, and Good Luck” he earned positive reviews.  He along with his cast was also nominated for the 2005 Screen Actors Guild Award for ‘Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture.’

Additionally, he became an established actor and appeared in lead roles in the movies “Nancy Drew” (2007) as Carson Drew, “Neal Cassady” (2007) as Neal Cassady, and “Wild About Harry” (2009) as Harry Goodhart.

He guest-starred on a season 6 episode of “Law & Order: Criminal Intent.” This actor also directed an episode of the sixth season of “Medium” in 2009. Meanwhile, he also directed two episodes of “Damages” in its third season and an episode of “Nip/Tuck” in its sixth season.

In the 2012 historical drama “Argo” he played the role of Bob Anders.  This movie earned the ‘Hollywood Film Festival Award’ and the ‘Palm Springs International Film Festival Award’ for ‘Best Cast.’ Similarly, it also won the ‘Screen Actors Guild Award’ for ‘Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture.’

His other movie appearances are “Elvis & Nixon” (2016), “The Upside” (2017), “Rocketman” (2019), “Worth”(2020), and “Respect” (2021). He will be a part of the upcoming movie “Ghosted.”

In 2005, he was part of the cast that was nominated for the ‘Screen Actors Guild Award’ for ‘Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture’ for ‘Good Night and Good Luck.’
