Sylvia Weinstock is a late American pastry chef, baker, cake decorator, and television personality. Sylvia Weinstock is best recognized for her elaborate and artistic wedding cake designs and created custom cakes for numerous high-profile clients, including celebrities, royalty, and dignitaries.

Early Life

Sylvia Weinstock was born in the Bronx, New York, the United States, on January 28, 1930. At the age of 91 years old, she passed away and was an American citizen. Meanwhile, her birth name is Sylvia Silver and has a birth sign of Aquarius. However, her ethical background and her religious beliefs are missing.

As a child, she was raised in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, and her family lived above their shop, which sold liquor and later was a bakery. Despite this, she has not disclosed the names and professions of her parents and siblings. There is very little information available regarding her childhood life.

She completed her bachelor’s degree in 1951 in psychology at Hunter College. Later, she enrolled at Queens College and completed her master’s degree in education in the year 1973.

Sylvia Weinstock – Death

On November 22, 2021, Weinstock died in Tribeca, New York, NY, at the age of 91. Her death was caused by multiple myeloma.

Professional Career

Initially, Sylvia Weinstock worked as an elementary school teacher on Long Island. Later, she started selling extra cakes to local restaurants and then apprenticed with pastry chef George Keller at the suggestion of André Soltner of Lutèce.

She founded her cake-baking and decorating company after surviving breast cancer at the age of 50. William Greenberg, a friend and bakery owner, then started referring people to her for wedding cakes, which he did not produce. After moving from Long Island to Manhattan,

Weinstock began baking cakes for private parties, initially at the Carlyle Hotel, where she gained a reputation. She later started producing wedding cakes. In 1983, she and her husband converted a warehouse in Manhattan’s Tribeca area into a four-story townhouse and bakery known as Sylvia Weinstock Cakes.

She decorated cakes for celebrities such as Oprah Winfrey, Kim Kardashian, and Martha Stewart. Moreover, she denied fondant in her cake decorations, describing it as “cheap and easy”; instead, she emphasized buttercream, sugar flowers, and stenciled designs. Moreover, she has been named “the Leonardo da Vinci of wedding cakes” by Bon Appétit.

She began appearing as a guest judge on the Food Network shows Chopped Sweets and Top Chef: Just Desserts after retiring. She was also a judge on the Netflix show Nailed It! in season one, where she was dubbed the show’s “secret weapon.”[6] She was a cake design instructor at the Institute of Culinary Education.

At the time of her death, Weinstock’s estimated net worth was $1.3 million. During the early 1970s, she was already earning $400 a week.

Relationship Status

In February 1949, Sylvia Weinstock married to Benjamin Weinstock. The couple first met more than 6 decades ago. With the relationship, the couple has three children whose names are yet unknown. However, their relationship came to an end after the death of her husband.
