Stuart Whitman opened his eyes to the world on the 1st of February 1928, in San Francisco, California, the United States of America. When he was 92 years old, he passed away and holds American nationality.

He was born to his father Joseph Whitman and his mother Cecilia Whitman. He grew up with his younger brother whose name is Kipp Whitman. By profession, his brother Kipp was also an actor.

He got interested in acting at the age of five. During that time, his father used to work as a ticket collector at Tammany Hall, and he would sometimes be allowed to watch plays. Meanwhile, his parent married in their teens and traveled frequently during his childhood. Later, his father became a lawyer who moved into property development.

Talking about his academic career, he started his education in New York, Manhattan, and Poughkeepsie. Later, his family settled in Los Angeles, and Stuart graduated from Hollywood High School in 1945.

After finishing school, he went to the U.S. Army and served in the Corps of Engineers for three years at Fort Lewis, Washington. Meanwhile, he originally intended to follow his father into law and used the G.I. Bill to enroll in Los Angeles City College.

In addition, his father did sell Whitman a bulldozer, which his son used to support himself in college. He attended studied at the Los Angeles Academy of Dramatic Art and with Michael Chekhov and Ben Bard.

On the 16th of March 2020, Whitman died from skin cancer at his Montecito, California home at the age of 92 years old.

Professional Career

Talking about his professional career, Stuart Whitman began his acting career in the early 1950s and appeared in many films and television shows throughout the years.

Moreover, he had a streak working in mostly bit parts in films, including “When Worlds Collide” (1951), “The Day the Earth Stood Still” (1951), “Barbed Wire” (1952), and “The Man from the Alamo” (1952), during his initial years. He also guest-starred in television series such as Dr. Christian, The Roy Rogers Show, and Death Valley Days, and also had a recurring role on Highway Patrol.

Moreover, he appeared in a lead role for the first time in John H. Auer’s 1957 drama film “Johnny Trouble.” Later, he was signed to the star-building program by 20th Century Fox in the late 1050s.

After this, he appeared as a lead cast in movies such as  “Darby’s Rangers” (1958), “China Doll” (1958), “Ten North Frederick” (1958), “The Decks Ran Red” (1958), “Hound-Dog Man” (1959), “These Thousand Hills” (1959), “The Story of Ruth” (1960), “Murder, Inc.” (1960), “The Comancheros” (1961), and “The Mark”(1961).

His other movie appearances included “The Longest Day” (1962), “The Day and the Hour” (1962), “Those Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines” (1965), “Cimarron Strip” (1967), and “Night of the Lepus” (1972). Besides working on the big screen, he has worked in television series.

Some of his notable appearances are “The Streets of San Francisco,” “Love, American Style,” “Quincy, M.E.,” “The Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew Mysteries,” “The Pirate,” “Condominium,” “Knight Rider,” “Matt Houston,” “A-Team,” “S.W.A.T.,” “Fantasy Island,” “Murder, She Wrote,” “Once Upon a Texas Train,” “Knots Landing,” “The Adventures of Brisco County, Jr.” and “Walker, Texas Ranger.”

He appeared as Jonathan Kent in the television series “Superboy” from the year 1988 to 1992. Moreover, he appeared in several movies and television projects until 2000, after which he was reported to be retired, and died in 2020.
