Steven Curtis Chapman is a Five-time GRAMMY-winning singer, songwriter, record producer, actor, author, and social activist. Steven Curtis Chapman is the only artist in the history of music to have won 56 Gospel Music Association Dove Awards.

Early Life

Steven Curtis Chapman was born in Paducah, Kentucky, the United States, on November 21, 1962. He came under the zodiac sign of Scorpio and is currently 61 years old as of 2023. Moreover, he belongs to the Caucasian ethnicity, believes in Christianity religion, and holds American nationality.

He completed his matriculation from a local high school near his hometown. Later, he enrolled as a pre-med student at Georgetown College in Kentucky.

After many semesters, he enrolled at Anderson College in Indiana, but dropped out and relocated to Nashville to pursue a music career. While in Nashville, he briefly attended Belmont University.

Professional Career

In the 1980s, Steven Curtis Chapman began working a music show at Opryland USA while dedicating time to songwriting. He released his debut album “First Hand” in the year 1987 and it included the song “Weak Days”, which peaked at No. 2 on the Contemporary Christian Music chart.

His second album named “Real Life Conversations” was released in 1988. The song earned him four more hits, including the No. 1 song “His Eyes.” In 1989,  the song earned the Contemporary Recorded Song of the Year award from the Gospel Music Association.

After this, the singer released two albums; “More to This Life” (1989), and “For the Sake of the Call” (1990). All of these albums had many number-one songs and received multiple GMA Awards.

He made a successful shift into a more mainstream audience with his album “The Great Adventure” in 1992. The album earned two Grammy awards for the album and the title song of the track video. He continued achieving constant success with albums like “Heaven in the Real World” (1994), “Signs of Life” (1996), and “Speechless” (1999).

Continued his successful career

Chapman received increased notice on the Billboard 200 after he released his tenth studio album “Declaration” in 2001. His eleventh album “All About Love” from 2003, reached the top 15 on the Christian Music charts. It was issued by Sparrow Records, and Chapman very humbly recognized his wife Mary Beth as the inspiration for the record.

In 2004, he released his twelfth album, “All Things New,” which peaked at No. 22. and was able to earn another Grammy Award.  His second Christmas and thirteenth studio album “All I Really Want for Christmas” was released in 2005.

He elevated his music to new heights by traveling to South Korea in 2006 to perform for US troops serving there. It was the first Christian concert ever given to American soldiers in that country.

In 2007, he released his fourth studio album “This Moment,” which includes successful hits such as ‘Cinderella’ and earned him a spot on WOW Hits 2009. He also embarked on his ‘Winter Jam’ tour with his children, Caleb and Will, and their band.

Departure from Sparrow Records and signed with Sony Music’s Provident Label Group

During the same year, he released his seventeenth album “Beauty Will Rise.” Many of the singles on this album were inspired by the death of his daughter, Maria Sue. In August 2012, he announced his departure from Sparrow Records and signed with Sony Music’s Provident Label Group.

With the Record Label, he released his fourth Christmas album, “JOY in October 2012.” “The Glorious Unfolding,” was released in the year 2013 by Reunion Records, peaked at number 27 on the Billboard 200, and was the number 1 Top Christian Album. Chapman and Brent Milligan co-produced the album.

Recent career

From September 2014 to September 2017, he hosted the “Sam’s Place: Music for the Spirit” concert series at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, which included concerts by MercyMe, Amy Grant, Michael W. Smith, and Third Day.

He sang a song called “Warrior” as the official song for the soundtrack to the 2015 Christian film “War Room.” In 2019, he released the sequel to his Billboard Bluegrass #1 album “Deep Roots, Deeper Roots: Where the Bluegrass Grows,” which likewise reached #1 on the Billboard Bluegrass charts.
