Stephen Boss is a late popular American freestyle hip-hop dancer, choreographer, actor, television producer, and television personality. Stephen Boss rose to fame as contestant-turned-judge on Fox’s dance competition TV show “So You Think You Can Dance.”

Early Life

On the 29th of September 1982, Stephen Boss was born in Montgomery, Alabama, in the United States of America. At the age of 41 years old, he passed away and held American nationality. Boss has a birth sign of Libra and belongs to the African-American ethnicity. In addition, he has his belief in Christianity religion and his birth name is Stephen Laurel “tWitch” Boss.

He was born to his parents, Connie Boss Alexander (father) and Sandford Rose (father).  Meanwhile, he has a brother whose name is Deondre Rose.

Education

Talking about his academic qualifications, he went to Lee High School and graduated in the year 2000. Then, he studied Dance Performance at Southern Union State Community College. Later, he enrolled at Chapman University in California.

Death

On the 13th of December 2022, he passed away at the age of 40 years old. Moreover, he was found dead in Encino, Los Angeles. His death was ruled a suicide as a result of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. Boss’ ashes were laid to rest at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

Professional Career

Regarding his professional journey, Stephen Boss appeared on MTV’s “The Wade Robson Project” in 2003 and later on the television talent show “Star Search.” He first auditioned for Season 3 in 2007 but was not chosen to be in the “Top Twenty.”

After a year, he returned to audition for Season 4 in 2008, where he was chosen to compete in the “Top Twenty” and finished runner-up to fellow hip-hop dancer Joshua Allen. During Season 4, he performed with fellow contestant Katee Shean in a Mia Michaels-choreographed Contemporary piece that was nominated for an Emmy for Choreography at the 61st Primetime Emmy Awards.

He returned to “So You Think You Can Dance” in season 5 with Katee Shean to perform their Emmy-nominated piece “Mercy.” Moreover, he was one of 11 “All-Stars” in Season 7. He was also a frequent All-Star on “So You Think You Can Dance” in Seasons 7, 8, and 9, where he performed many memorable routines, including the hip-hop number “Outta Your Mind” with ballet dancer Alex Wong.

Film debut

In season 12, he served as Team Captain for “Team Street” on “So You Think You Can Dance.” Twitch Clothing is his clothing line. He went on to teach at South County Classical Ballet with fellow “So You Think You Can Dance” finalist Katee Shean after competing in “So You Think You Can Dance.” Moreover, Boss has also choreographed for Seven, a South Korean pop/R&B singer.

He and Allison Holker appeared on Dancing with the Stars in 2013 and performed a dance routine. They danced to Crystallize, a live performance by Lindsey Stirling. Aside from these, he made his film debut in 2007 with the comedy-drama film “Blades of Glory.”

Following that, he appeared in several films and television shows, including “Hairspray” (2007), “Stomp the Yard: Homecoming” (2010), “Touch” (2011), “Step Up Revolution” (2012), “Step Up: All In” (2014), “Bound & Babysitting” (2015), and many others. He played Malik in the 2015 comedy-drama film Magic Mike XXL.

Recent Works

Moreover, he has also appeared as a guest DJ on the “Ellen DeGeneres Show” since 2014. “Famous in Love” (2017), “Ellen’s Game of Games” (2017-Present), and “Young & Hungry” (2018) are some of his other TV appearances. Additionally, Boss also appeared in a few web series “The Legion of Extraordinary Dancers” (2010), “The Legion of Extraordinary Dancers: The Secrets of the Ra” (2011), and “Love” (2016).

He and his wife Allison Holker have hosted Disney’s “Fairy Tale Weddings” on the Freeform Network and Disney+ since 2018. Moreover, he was cast as Marcel X in the upcoming superhero film “Perfectus,” and later appeared in the movie “Ushers.”

In 2010, he established experiMENTAL Industries, a production company, with his manager, Nelson Diaz, and two other partners. He was last seen in the film  “The Hip Hop Nutcracker” in 2022. Moreover, he also hosted “The Real Dirty Dancing” and was a judge on “So You Think You Can Dance” in 2022.

On the 10th of December 2013, Stephen Boss married American dancer Allison Holker. Their wedding took place in Paso Robles, California. The couple welcomed a son, Maddox Laurel, in March 2017 and a daughter, Zaia Boss, in 2019. Moreover, Boss also has a stepdaughter from Holker’s previous relationship. Till the time of his death, he was never involved in controversy and scandals.
