Stan Van Gundy was born in Indio, California, on August 26, 1959. He is 64 years old as of 2024. Stan is the son of Bill Van Gundy who is the former head basketball coach of the ‘State University of New York at Brockport.
Meanwhile, his mother’s name is Cindy Van Gundy. He has one younger brother, Jeff Van Gundy who is a former ‘New York Knicks’ and ‘Houston Rockets coach.

Stan went to the ‘Alhambra High School’ in California. There, he was a starting guard for the school team where he also played for the SUNY – Brockport team. Likewise, he graduated in 1981, with a Bachelor’s degree in BSc. in Physical Education and English.
Career and Professional Life
Stan Van Gundy started his journey as an assistant coach at the University of Vermont. He received the title of ‘District 5 Coach of the Year’ in 1983 from ‘NAIA’. After that, from 1984 to 1985 he took the ‘Castleton Spartans’ to the top in the NAIA’s Mayflower Conference. The Castleton Spartans, later on, won the 1985 NAIA District 5 Men’s Basketball Tournament.
Similarly, stan worked as an assistant coach at Canisius College in 1987. Later on, he became the head coach at the University of Massachusetts Lowell (1988–1992). Similarly, he worked at the University of Wisconsin as an assistant coach. Then in 2994, he became the head coach position for the Wisconsin Badgers.
Stan worked as an assistant coach for the NBA franchise Miami Heat for eight years. Here, he led the team to a 42-match winning record in the 2003-2004 seasons. Stan resigned as the head coach of the Miami Heat on December 12, 2005.
