Shelby Lynne is a popular country singer and songwriter from the United States. Shelby Lynne earned a Grammy Award for her hit album “I am Shelby Lynne,” released in 1999.

Early Life

Shelby Lynne was born in Quantico, Virginia, United States, on October 22, 1968. Her full name is Shelby Lynn Moorer and she holds American nationality.

She celebrated her birth on the 22nd of October each year and is currently 55 years old as of 2023. According to astrology, she has a sun sign of Libra while her ethnic background and religious belief are unknown.

She was born to Vernon Franklin Moorer and Laura Lynn Smith. In addition, she was raised along with her younger sister whose name is Allison Moorer, a singer-songwriter.

Her mother was a talented musician who encouraged her love of music. Her father, on the other hand, was an alcoholic who was reckless and frequently abused her mother. Shelby was frequently subjected to situations of apparent domestic abuse and neglect.

The two sisters were taken to Mobile by her mother in 1985, where Shelby completed her studies. She attended Theodore High School.

Her father discovered their new residence in 1986 and murdered their mother before killing himself in front of her and her sister. At the time, Shelby was 17 years old whereas her sister was 14 years old.

Professional Career

After completing her high school education, Shelby Lynne was featured in the TNN Country Music show named  Nashville Now’ in 1987. She later signed a contract with Epic Records and released her first recording for Epic a duet with George Jones, “If I Could Bottle This Up.”

The single became a top hit in 1988. After this, she worked with producer Billy Sherrill and released her debut album “Sunrise.” It was followed by “Tough All Over” in 1990 and “Soft Talk” in 1991, both of which were more country pop in nature. However, she discovered that her career at Epic was not flourishing and chose to leave.

After leaving Epic, she signed with the smaller Morgan Creek label, debuting with 1993’s “Temptation,” an exercise in Bob Wills-style Western swing and big band jazz. She got split with Morgan Creek due to its instability. And, she went to work with Magnatone and released “Restless” in the year 1995.

Later Works

She then withdrew from the recording scene for several years. Moreover, she worked on Vince Gill’s 1996 High Lonesome Sound album, where she performed background, harmony vocals on the song “You And You Alone.” The song was performed by Vince Gill and Shelby Lynne during the 1997 CMA Awards.

She continued her musical career after a seven-year break. Moreover, she began working with producer Bill Bottrell. Shelby released her next album “I Am Shelby Lynne” with Bill and won the Grammy Award for Best New Artist on February 21, 2001.

Later, she worked with Glen Ballard for her album “Love, Shelby” and produced “Identity Crisis” on her own. In early 2008, she released another album “Just a Little Lovin'” by Lost Highway Records. The album was ranked forty-one on the Billboard 200.

She founded her label, Everso Records, after a disagreement with Lost Highway. With her recording label, she released her later albums “Tears, Lies and Alibis” (2010), “Merry Christmas” (2010) and “Revelation Road” (2011).

She also worked with her sister Allison professionally. The two sisters collaborated on the album named “Not Dark Yet” which was released on 18th of August 2017.

In 1991, she won the Academy of Country Music Awards for the Top New Female Vocalist category. She won the 2001 Grammy Award for Best New Artist. In addition, she was nominated for the 1990 TNN/Music City News Country Awards and the 1996 Academy of Country Music Awards.
