Rula Ghani was born Rula F. Saadah Ghani in 1948, in her birthplace Lebanon. Her age might be 74 or 75. She was brought up in Lebanon, in a Lebanese Maronite Christian family.

Rula Ghani is a former first lady of Afghanistan. In 2014, upon his inauguration as president, Ghani publicly thanked his wife, referring to her by her Afghan name, Bibi Gul. President Ghani remarked, looking emotional, “I want to thank my partner, Bibi Gul, for supporting me and Afghanistan.” She has always been a supporter of Afghan women, and I hope she stays that way. In 2017, historian Ali A. Olomi stated that Rula Ghani could help in bringing about significant change for women’s rights in the nation by following the example of Afghanistan’s Queen Soraya. Ghani fought for women’s rights during her time as First Lady.

The Afghan presidential palace, the Arg, was taken over by the Taliban a few hours after Ghani escaped Afghanistan on August 15, 2021, along with her husband, kids, and two senior advisers. The Ghani family was reported to be present in the United Arab Emirates on August 18, 2021.
