Ruby was born to parents from Ireland and Montserrat in Islington. Her parents are Richard Barker and Opal Barker but both of her parents had passed away.

At the age of 11, she made her first TV appearance in a commercial for the Royal Bank of Scotland’s Money Sense campaign.
