Early Life and Childhood

Roman Atwood’s full name is Roman Bernard Atwood and he was born on 28 May 1983. He celebrates his 40th birthday and he is originally from Millersport, Ohio. His parents are his father Curtis Dale Atwood and his mother Susan Anne Christman. He has a brother named Dale Atwood, who is a fellow YouTuber.

Sadly, Roman Atwood’s mother passed away unexpectedly after a tragic accident while on vacation with the entire Atwood family. It was on 29 May 2019 and Roman subsequently took time out from his social media activity to grieve for his mother.

Roman Atwood is professionally a social media star. He is primarily a YouTube prankster popular for his public and hidden camera pranks. His self-titled channel has earned over 10 million subscribers. Likewise, Roman collaborated with Steve-O on a prank in a video titled What Would You Do Prank? Moreover, his first breakout hit video was the video titled Cops Get Owned!!!. This video was posted in March 2012.

Moreover, Roman’s second channel RomanAtwoodVlogs features the same world-traveling prankster along with video blogs of his fatherhood. This channel is currently the 57th most subscribed YouTube channel. More precisely, Roman Atwood has been filming and producing videos since high school. He then began his independent career by producing a series of DVDs called The Nerd Herd. It sold at the Warped Tour in 2006.

Additionally, Roman Atwood worked on various film projects and commercials in Columbus, Ohio until 2010. Then he decided to focus on his passion for comedy and created the YouTube channel Sketch Empire. Before his YouTube career, Roman Atwood worked at his family’s rope factory called Atwood Rope. Plastic Ball Prank

In this video, Roman Atwood fills his house with plastic balls 2.5 ft high. This turned his house into a massive ball pit. He uploaded this video on 18 January 2015 and currently has almost 86 million views. Nissan noticed this video and gave Roman Atwood a 2015 Nissan GTR in exchange for using his video in the WithDad campaign during their half-time advert at Super Bowl XLIX. The 5th Streamy Awards awarded it the best “Brand Campaign”.

Anniversary Prank

Roman posted the video titled Anniversary Prank Backfires!! on 20 November 2013 and currently has over 86 million views. This video features him pranking his wife Smith on their fifth dating anniversary. On this prank, Atwood confesses that he has cheated on her.

However, the prank backfires when Smith already sees the camera before the prank. Hence, she pranks Roman back by pretending that she has cheated on him too. Brittney Smith only reveals her prank after a few seconds of Atwood reacting badly to the news. At the end of the video, Smith says “I thought you were going to propose”.

Killing My Kid Prank

Roman uploaded the video titled Killing My Kid PRANK!! on 30 November 2014 and currently has over 50 million views. This particular prank video shows Roman pranking Smith by throwing a mannequin in a Spider-Man costume, pretending it was their son Kane.

When she runs to the mannequin, Brittney Smith quickly pulls off its mask, realizing it is not Kane and the mannequin. At this point, Smith breaks down into tears as Roman enters the room snickering at her. She then storms off, but returns when he asks her “Are you that mad?”.

To this, Smith starts shouting at him and tells him he’s “sleeping on the couch”. During the couple’s appearance on the reality TV series Tanked, they referenced this video, and Smith revealed that Roman did sleep on the couch that night.

Other Projects

Film: Natural Born Pranksters

In 2016, Roman Atwood, Vitaly Zdorovetskiy, and Dennis Roady released a film, which Lionsgate produced. This film is named Natural Born Pranksters. However, this film has received little critical attention. Neither Rotten Tomatoes nor Metacritic has yet built enough reviews to even give the film a score.

Tour

The same year, Roman and fellow YouTuber Yousef Erakat started a worldwide tour. It is called Roman vs. Fousey. For the tour, the duo performed shows in the United States, Canada, and the UK.

Legal Issues and Criticism

In March 2014, the Columbus Police Department arrested Roman and his accomplices. It was for inducing panic and disorderly conduct during the filming of a prank in which he pretended to rob an ATM in public. Later, they released the group on bail and summoned them to court. His fans also showed up to the court to support and watch the case. As a defendant, Roman won the case based on the expression of art and freedom of speech and hence they settled the case.

Also, Roman has been accused of staging prank videos and violating YouTube’s policy for misleading content. In November 2015, YouTube star Phillip De Franco briefly accused Roman and FouseyTUBE of staging prank videos. Likewise, in December 2015, The Prank Reviewer posted a video where he accused Roman of using actors in his videos and provided evidence for his claims.

Relationship Status

In 2001, Roman married Shanna Riley. Shanna and Roman have a son together named Noah Vaughn Atwood. Noah is Roman’s first son and he was born on 18 October 2004. However, in 2008, Roman filed for divorce after Shanna cheated on him with a friend while on vacation.

At present, Roman resides in his hometown with his wife Brittney Smith-Atwood. With Brittney, Roman has a second son named Kane Alexander Atwood and a daughter named Cora Atwood. Kane was born on 23 October 2011 and Cora was born on 16 July 2017.

The lovers met each other at the wedding of Roman’s friend, Chase Gilroy. During Gilroy’s wedding, Toman was his best man in the year 2008. Likewise, Brittney Smith is Gilroy’s wife and Veronica’s sister. The duo started dating from there onwards. Later, Roman proposed to Brittney Smith on 30 April 2018 and they tied the knot on 27 July 2018 in Maui, Hawaii.
