The names of his parents are Stephanie Kay and Ivan Kay. He was raised with his two older sisters, Camilla and Fiona. At a young age, he and his family moved to Belgium and  Prague, the Czech Republic, due to his parent’s work.

Education and audition

He went to the International School of Prague. At the age of nine, he noticed a notice board at his school advertising a casting call for the film “The Illusionist.” He had no acting experience and had only performed in a few school plays up until then.

However, Robbie, like many of his friends, decided to try his luck. Fortunately, he was chosen to perform a minor role. After a few days of performing his character and visiting the film sets, he became fascinated by the entire process. Although his character was cut from the film, the experience provided Robbie with the motivation he needed to pursue a career in acting.

After appearing in a few more minor roles in films and television shows, he decided to take classes in acting to improve his talents. He engaged in acting, dancing, and singing courses at Britain’s ‘Stagecoach Theatre’ school.

In the year 2007, Robbie Kay made his acting debut playing a minor role of Robert Kay in the film named “Hannibal Rising.” Despite being a critical failure, it was a commercial success. That same year, he played the supporting role of Arthur Relp in the biographical TV film “My Boy Jack.” It was a huge critical success and earned many awards.

He earned his breakthrough role when he played the role of a younger version of the lead character Jakob in the Canadian film “Fugitive Pieces.” The film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival and this role boosted his acting career.

He played the title role in the 2008 fantasy–drama miniseries “Pinocchio” a miniseries based on the novel ‘The Adventures of Pinocchio.’ The same year, he provided a voice role in the horror-drama “Bathory.” In the 2010 British musical drama “Made in Dagenham” he played the supporting role of Graham. It was a huge critical and commercial success and also was able to earn several nominations and awards.

He played the lead role in the drama film “Ways to Live Forever” and the independent film was screened at several film festivals and was a moderate box-office success. Moreover, he played a cabin boy in the 2011 film “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides,” the year’s biggest blockbuster.

Then, he appeared as Peter Pan in the American fantasy drama television series “Once Upon a Time.” He appeared in 11 episodes of the third season, three of the fifth season, and one episode of the seventh season. For his role in the series, he also earned several awards and nominations.

Continued playing in successful films and TV series

Moreover, he continued playing a major role following this. The actor played the lead role of Tommy Clark/Nathan Bennet in the 13-episode miniseries “Heroes Reborn” from 2015 to 2016.

Having a 4 years break from movies, he made his comeback, playing the role of Nigel Sheffield in the 2015 film “Flight World War II.” Additionally, he played the major role of Ben Redfield in the 2016 horror drama “Cold Moon.”

In 2017, he starred in the romantic comedy “No Postage Necessary” and received mixed reviews. The next year, he was cast in the lead role of Dax Conway in the comedy–horror “Blood Fest” and in the independent film “Locating Silver Lake”

Recently, he was cast as a Young German soldier in the 2022 film “Burning at Both Ends.” Some of his recent television credit includes “Grey’s Anatomy” (2017), “Sleepy Hollow” (2017), “The Rookie” (2019), and “9-1-1” (2022).
