After finishing his graduation, Rob Benedict started performing in regional theatres across the country. He played the role of James Dean in a one-man show in Chicago and LA. He began performing in improv and sketch comedy gigs in Los Angeles.

Soon after, he moved into stand-up comedy, organizing a monthly event called “Die Laughing” in which he performed alongside Tig Navaro, Paul F. Tompkins, and Zach Galifianakis. He was cast as Richard Coad in the WB TV series “Felicity”  which ran for 4 years on the WB. Moreover, he appeared in a total of 36 episodes for the series from 1998 to 2000.

He portrayed scientist Lucas Pegg in CBS’s “Threshold,” a member of a secret government team exploring the first contact with an alien culture. In “Supernatural” seasons 4, 5, 10, 11, 14, and 15, he plays Chuck Shurley, a writer who was formerly supposed to be a prophet of the Lord but was subsequently revealed to be God, and who eventually becomes the series’ major adversary. In the TV series “Alias” he was Sydney Bristow’s short-term CIA partner, Brodien.

Continued his successful acting career

His early television series credits include “Birds of Prey” and “Come to Papa,” as well as guest roles on “NCIS,” “CSI,” “Monk,” “Medium,” “Chicago Hope,” “NYPD Blue,” “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” “Snoops,” “Burn Notice,” and “Beverly Hills, 90210.”

He did sever recurring roles in TV series such as “Lucifer,” “Bosch,” “NCIS: New Orleans,” “Masters of Sex,” Fox’s “Touch,” and “Franklin & Bash.” In the Starz Original comedy series “Head Case,” he played the irreverent power agent Jeremy Berger.
