Early Life

Richard Marx was born in Chicago, Illinois, the United States, on September 16, 1963. According to the astrological chart, he has a birth sign of Virgo and he is currently 60 years old. In June 1987, he released his debut album “Richard Marx” in the year 1987 and featured four hit singles, ‘Don’t Mean Nothing’, ‘Should’ve Known Better’, ‘Endless Summer Nights’ and ‘Hold On to the Nights.’ ‘Surrender to Me’ which he co-wrote with Ross Vanelli, appeared in the film “Tequila Sunrise” in 1988.

His second album “Repeat Offender” was released in May 1989. It went on to number 1 on Billboards album chart went triple platinum within a few months and eventually sold over 5 million copies in the United States alone.

In 1991, he released his next multi-platinum album, “Rush Street.” Its single ‘Hazard’ was a huge smash, peaking at number one on charts all over the world. “Paid Vacation,” his fourth consecutive multiple-platinum album, was released in 1994. The rock ballad ‘Now and Forever’ from it topped the Billboard Adult Contemporary chart for 11 weeks.

He released the adult contemporary album “Flesh & Bone” in 1997, which was his final record for Capitol. Its single ‘Until I Find You Again’ peaked at number one in several countries.

In 2000, he released his sixth studio album “Days in Avalon” under the label of Signal 21 Records. In 2004, he extended his contract with ‘Manhattan Records’ and released his seventh album “My Own Best Enemy.” The album had two big songs, ‘Ready to Fly’ and ‘When You’re Gone.’

Continued releasing new albums and singles

In 2008, Marx released “Duo,” on which he collaborated with Vertical Horizon’s lead singer Matt Scannell. In 2008, he released the albums “Emotional Remains” and “Sundown” through his official site. The track ‘Through My Veins’, appearing in ‘Emotional Remains’, is a tribute to his late father. “Stories To Tell” was his first acoustic album released in March 2010.

In 2011, he released “The Christmas EP,” a collection of Christmas songs, in memory of his late grandmother. His debut radio record was ‘Christmas Spirit,’ which he co-wrote with Fee Waybill.
In 2012, he released the holiday album “Christmas Spirit.” The radio hit ‘Little Drummer Boy’ was his first Top Ten record in 14 years.

In July 2014, he released his eleventh studio album “Beautiful Goodbye.” Additionally, he released his twelfth album “Limitless” in February 2020. Meanwhile, it’s lead-off single, ‘Another One Down’, hit No. 14 on Billboard’s Adult Contemporary chart, giving Marx 32 years in the format.

His autobiography, ‘Stories to Tell,’ was released in July 2021. His next album, “Songwriter,” was released on September 30, 2022, with the first song, Same Heartbreak, Different Day, on July 15, 2022.

Awards

His solo single, ‘Don’t Mean Nothing,’ was released in 1988. It earned him a Grammy nomination for ‘Best Rock Vocal Performance – Male.’ He and Luther Vandross co-wrote the record ‘Dance with My Father’. The album earned him four Grammy Awards in 2004.
