Richard H. Kirk was a late British musician. Richard H. Kirk is widely popular as a key figure in the development of British electronic and DIY music, from his co-founding of the Sheffield-based band Cabaret Voltaire in the 1970s, through his 90s recordings for Warp Records, and to his later solo work fusing electronics, funk, and dub.

Early Life

Richard H. Kirk was born on the 21st of March 1956, in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, England, United Kingdom. He holds a British nationality and has his belief in Christianity religion. At the age of 65 years old, he passed away and has a birth sign of Aries. His birth name is Richard Harold Kirk.

Professional Career

Richard H. Kirk began working with Watson, a GPO electronics engineer who played “tape recorder and oscillator,” in the latter’s attic. To start Cabaret Voltaire, Kirk played clarinet and guitar, and Mallinder joined them on bass and vocals. Before Watson built his own, they borrowed a VCS3 synthesizer from Sheffield University’s music department.

In the 1970s, he rose to prominence as a member of the seminal industrial band Cabaret Voltaire. The band released its debut album, “Mix-Up,” in 1979.

Kirk’s first solo release, “Disposable Half-Truths,” came out in 1980, and he continued to work as a solo artist alongside Cabaret Voltaire, of which he was the sole member from 1994 until his death. His solo output increased significantly during the 1990s.

He reformed the band as the sole remaining member in 2014, performing sporadically with all-new material more akin to his solo work than the output of Cabaret Voltaire’s original incarnation. His music was mostly released on his own labels, including Intone, which he founded in 2003.

In addition, his works explored every type of electronic/dance music and were released under so many pseudonyms that it can be difficult to develop a complete picture of the vast scope covered. His output was so prolific that he earned the title of “contemporary techno’s busiest man.” Meanwhile, he released a new album “Shadow Of Fear” in 2020 which was the first with Kirk as the sole band member.
