After three seasons of play with the team, he was traded to the OHL’s Barrie Colts for the 2006–07 campaign.

On July 30, 2005, the Dallas Stars selected him 71st overall in the third round of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft. He inked a three-year entry-level deal with the Dallas Stars on March 25, 2007.

Moreover, On April 14, Clune made his AHL debut with the Iowa Stars, Dallas’ affiliate. He was dealt for Lauri Tukonen to the Los Angeles Kings in July 2008.

On October 6, 2008, during training camp, he sustained a chest injury that led to his trade to the Manchester Monarchs.

Furthermore, He was a member of the Monarchs team until the 2012–2013 campaign, at which point he signed a contract with the Nashville Predators. Clune inked a one-year deal with the AHL’s Toronto Marlies on July 5, 2015.
