Professional Life

Previously, Rich Koz started his career through broadcasting at WMTH-FM. Thus, it is the high school radio station at Maine East in Park Ridge, Illinois. During high school, he sent the original Svengoolie, Jerry G. Bishop, material for the horror movie program.

Subsequently, Bishop invited Koz to join the show’s staff. In 1973, the show was canceled and Bishop and Koz worked together doing mornings on WMAQ radio in Chicago.  In addition, he worked with radio legend Dick Orkin on commercials and syndicated features.

It also included ChickenMan Returns for the Last Time Again.” In 1978, Bishop left for San Diego, he permitted him to create a show known as Son of Svengoolie. On WFLD-TV Ch. 32, he began as Son of Svengoolie, winning numerous local Emmy awards, in June 1979.

Therefore, his show was syndicated to sister stations in Philadelphia, Boston, Detroit, and San Francisco for a brief period. After the station was acquired by the News Corporation, WFLD canceled Svengoolie, in 1986.

There was believing the show was not dignified for a network affiliate. Besides that, at WGN radio, he did some freelance radio, including stints as a fill-in. He returned to WFLD to host a new hosted movie show, from 1989 to 1993.

Therefore, he appeared to be “breaking in” to the Fox signal. The viewers were asked to address letters to “Lose Weight by Selling Real Estate, No Money Down”, but the show was originally untitled. Later on, the show adopted the name The Koz Zone.

The cartoons presented by Koz, interspersed with sketch comedy bits were featured in the show. Additionally, he did mornings on WCKG radio for a brief period.

On July 4, he co-hosted live and New Year’s Eve programming, and became weekend and fill-in weather anchor for Fox 32 News. He came back on the air as part of the launch team for the newly independent station WCIU-TV, Channel 26, in 1995. He became Svengoolie and resumed weekly horror movie shows, along with numerous other duties.

Similarly, he has won Emmy Awards and was admitted to the NATAS/Emmy “Silver Circle.  Starting in 2011, he started to be seen nationwide, starting in 2011. It was when the Svengoolie show became a regular Saturday night staple on the MeTV classic TV network.

Moreover, he is also known for the early 1980s 3-D broadcast of Revenge of the Creature. Thus, it also resulted in a civil action lawsuit by people who felt they didn’t get enough 3-D.
