Early Life and Childhood

Talking about his professional footballing career, Renato Tapia signed a four-year contract with Eredivisie side Twente club, in the summer transfer of 2013.
After joining the club, he was immediately sent to the Jong FC Twente, the club’s reserves, to develop and made his debut for Jong FC Twente on 20 September 2013 in a 3-3 draw against De Graafschap, coming on as a substitute in the second half for Robbert Schilder.
For his club Jong FC Twente, he scored his first goal against Willem II in a 2-1 win. During the 2013-2014 season, he made 19 appearances scoring once for his club.
Due to his good performance in the 2013-2014 season, he was promoted to the main squad of Twente and made his debut for the senior team on 9 August 2014 in a 0-0 draw against Cambuur, coming on as a substitute in the 80th minute for Darryl Lachman.
A week later, he suffered from an ankle injury that kept him out for three months and made his return to the first team as a late substitute in a 2-1 win over PEC Zwolle on 23 November 2014.
He scored his debut goal for the club on the 31st of January 2015, a match against Cambur in a 2-1 win. Suffering from a knee injury, he finished the season making 22 appearances and scoring five goals in all competitions.
Following the 2015-2016 season, by the end of the first half of the season, he made 14 appearances and scored once in all competitions for his team.
Feyenoord
After spending over three years at FC Twente, he signed a 4.5-year contract with the Feyenoord on the 27th of January 2016. It is reported that the transfer fee was around €2.4 million. He made his debut for the club on the 7th of February 2016 in a match against Ajax, in a 2-1 loss. In his debut season for the club, he played in the reserve for most of the season.
He made eight appearances in all competitions as Feyenoord won the 2015-16 KNVB Cup where he was an unused substitute in a 2-1 win against FC Utrecht in the KNVB Cup final.
On the 22nd of September 2016, he made his debut appearance in the second round of the KNVB Cup in a 4-1 win over Oss. Later, he scored in his debut league appearance of the season in a 2-0 win over Willem II, on the 2nd of October 2016.
He made a total of 19 appearances, scoring 2 goals in all competitions as the club won the 2016-17 Eredivisie. Meanwhile, he made a total of 27 appearances and scored once in all competitions in the 2017-2018 season, Feyenoord won the KNVB Cup and Johan Cruyff Shield that season where he was an unused substitute in both the final matches.
Last season with the Feyenoord
By the end of the first half of the 2018-2019 season, he made 7 appearances in all competitions as Feyenoord won the John Cruijff Shield where he was out of the squad due to injury.
Later, he was loaned to Willem II on the 14th of January 2019 and for the rest of the 2018-19 season. And, he made 19 appearances and scored once in all the competitions for the club. He made his return to Feyenoord from a loan where he managed to make 26 appearances for the club in all the competitions, during the 2019-2020 season.
Celta de Vigo
On the 20th of July 2020, Tapia joined La Liga side Celta de Vigo for a free transfer on a four-year contract. On the 12th of September 2020, he made his debut for the club in a 0-0 draw against SD Eibar. During his debut season for the club, he made 34 appearances for the club without scoring any goal in all the competitions.
International Career
Renato Tapia has represented his country at various age levels such as U17, U20, and the senior class. He was chosen by the Peru U17 for the South American U17 Football Championship and by the Peru U20 for the South American Youth Football Championship. On the 1st of April 2015, he made his national team debut. In the Copa America Centenario, he represented his country where he played all four matches in the campaign. He scored his debut international goal on the 7th of September 2016, in a 2-1 win over Ecuador. Till now, he has obtained over 50 caps for Peru.
