Early Life
Born as Rachel Leland Levine better known as Rachel Levine who was born on the 28th of October 1957, in Wakefield, Massachusetts, the United States.

Professional Career
Initially, Rachel Levine started working as a trainee in paediatrics at the New York City Mount Sinai Hospital. For five years, she worked there from 1988 to 1993. In 1993, she moved to Pennsylvania and joined the staff at Penn State Hershey Medical Center.
While at Penn State Hershey Medical Center, she established the adolescent medicine division and eating disorders clinic. In accordance with this, she was nominated by Pennsylvania Governor-elect Tom Wolf to be the state’s Physician General in 2015.

She served as Physician General for two years, till 2017. Additionally, she signed an order allowing law enforcement officials to carry the anti-overdose medicine naloxone while in the position. She was appointed as Secretary of Health by the Pennsylvania State Senate in 2017 and held the position till 2021. Serving as a Secretary of Health, she gave more attention to the public health response to COVID-19 in Pennsylvania.
The US President, Joe Biden nominated her to be assistant secretary for health on the 13th of February 2021. She was commissioned as a four-star admiral in the United States Public Health Service Commissioned Corps (PHSCC) on October 19, 2021. With her appointment, she became the PHSCC’s first female four-star admiral and the US’s first openly transgender four-star officer.
