College career

Jones began his basketball career during his high school days. Moreover, he enrolled at Murray State University to play college basketball after playing for his high school team for a season. His entire college basketball season was a success, as he scored over 2,000 points and grabbed over 1,000 rebounds. He was named All-Ohio Valley Conference three times, All-America honorable mention twice, and OVC Player of the Year twice in 1990 and 1991.

He was also named OVC Athlete of the Year twice in 1990 and 1991. Professional career

The Houston Rockets drafted him 41st overall in the second round of the 1992 NBA Draft after a successful college career. His rights were then traded to the Dallas Mavericks, and he was unable to participate in the NBA that season as a result. As a response, in the 1992-93 season, he moved to Europe and played with Aresium Milano. In 1993, he returned to the NBA after a season in Europe and joined the Dallas Mavericks.

Before being moved to the Toronto Raptors, he spent the next three seasons with the franchise. From 1996 to 1998, he was a member of the Toronto Raptors. He joined the Boston Celtics in 1998 and played there until 1999. Following that, he played with the Denver Nuggets (1999–2000), Washington Wizards (2000–2002), and Dallas Mavericks (2002–2003) among others. His last professional basketball team was the Golden State Warriors. In 2003, he became a member of the team and played for them for one season. He retired from basketball as a player in 2004.

Coach career

After playing for 11 years for franchises, he announced his retirement as a player. After that, he took a long break and returned in 2007, as a coach. Moreover, he worked as a player development coach for his past team, Dallas Mavericks. Working for the team for a long time, he left the team and was hired as an assistant coach for the New Jersey/Brooklyn Nets in 2010.

There, he worked for three years and left in 2013. On 14 August 2013, he joined the Indiana Pacers as their new assistant coach. There, he worked with highly talented players such as Roy Hibbert and Paul George. After a lot of hard work by the coach and players, his team made it to the Eastern Conference Finals.

Similarly, during his tenure, the team was able to achieve even more amazing successes. After working for almost seven years, he bid farewell to the Indiana Pacers in 2020.  He was appointed as an assistant coach by the Philadelphia 76ers on November 9, 2020. He is presently assisting Doc Rivers, the team’s head coach, in taking the team to the next level.
