Paul Reiser is an actor, comedian, and television writer from the United States. Moreover, Paul Reiser is best known for his popular sitcoms “My Two Dads” (1987-1990), and “Mad About You” (1992-1999, 2019).

Early Life

On the 30th of March 1956, Paul Reiser was born in New York City, the United States of America. He is currently 66 years old and an American by nationality. Similarly, he has a horoscope of Aries and practices the Jewish religion. The actor belongs to the Ashkenazi Jewish ethnicity.

Following his parent, he is the son of Sam Reiser (father) and Helen Reiser (mother). His father was a health food distributor while his mother was a homemaker by profession. Regarding his academic qualification, he went to the East Side Hebrew Institute and graduated from Stuyvesant High School. Later, he enrolled at Binghamton University and majored in music (piano, composition).

Following his university years, Reiser was active in student theater productions at the Hinman Little Theater, an on-campus community theater organization in Hinman College, Reiser’s dorm community. During university summer breaks, he used to perform as a comedian in New York clubs.

Professional Career

After making an image as a stand-up comedian, Paul Reiser made his film debut in 1982 a coming-of-age film “Diner” as Modell. The following year, he played a detective in Beverly Hills Cop (1984), a role he reprised in its sequel Beverly Hills Cop II (1987), and will play again in the upcoming Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley.

Meanwhile, he also appeared in James Cameron’s science fiction action film “Aliens” (1986), in which he played the villainous Carter Burke; and in The Marrying Man (1991) and Bye Bye Love (1995). He made his television debut in the 1982 television series “Remington Steele” playing the role of Ivan Turbell in an episode of ‘A Good Night’s Steele.’

He rose to fame after playing one of two possible fathers of a teenage girl in the TV sitcom “My Two Dads” (1987–90). Later, this actor came to prominence in North America as Paul Buchman in Mad About You (1992–99), a comedy series he co-created, in which Helen Hunt co-starred as his on-screen wife.

In addition, Paul Reiser was also the co-composer for the show’s theme song, “The Final Frontier” (with Don Was), and performed the piano for the theme’s recording. For the shows last season, he and Hunt received $1 million ($1.6 million today) per episode.

In the year 2018, this actor signed onto a Mad About You revival and it was picked up as a 12-episode limited series by Spectrum Originals in March 2019, which became available for members of Amazon Prime Video as of fall 2020.

He played the role of Jerry Lipman, a man desperate to locate his biological mother, after learning he has a serious illness, in the 2001 British TV film “My Beautiful Son.” After a year, this actor made a guest appearance as himself on Larry David’s HBO sitcom, “Curb Your Enthusiasm.” In the 2007 TV comedy film “Atlanta ” he appears as one half of a couple who, after meeting at a funeral, are unable to stay away from each other.

Additionally, he has scripted and starred in the semi-autobiographical comedy series “The Paul Reiser Show,” which aired on NBC as a mid-season replacement during the 2010–11 TV season. Similarly, Reiser co-created (but did not star in) the 2017 dramedy “There’s… Johnny!,” set backstage at The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson in 1972.

Meanwhile, he has appeared in films such as “Whiplash” (2014), “Concussion”(2015), “War on Everyone” (2016), “I Do… Until I Don’t” (2017), “The Spy Who Dumped Me” (2018), “Horse Girl” (2020), and “Fatherhood.”

And his recent TV series are such as “Red Oaks” (2014-2017) and “Stranger Things” (2017-2022), “The Kominsky Method” (2019-2021), “The Boys” (2022), and “Reboot” (2022). He will be cast as Det. Jeffrey Friedman in the upcoming movie “Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley” which is currently in post-production.

Musical works

He and the singer, Julia Fordham created a CD album named “Unusual Suspects” (2010) which includes the song “Unsung Hero”, dedicated to American soldiers serving in Afghanistan.  The duo started on an acoustic tour after its release. With singer Melissa Manchester, he co-wrote the song, “No There There There” for her 2015 album, “You Gotta Love the Life.”

Besides acting, Reiser is an author and has written three books: “Couplehood,” about the ups and downs of being in a committed relationship; “Babyhood,” about his experiences as a first-time father; and “Familyhood” (released in May 2011), a collection of humorous essays.
