Pierson is the author or co-author of numerous books, including “Dismantling the Welfare State?: Reagan, Thatcher and the Politics of Retrenchment,” “The New Politics of the Welfare State,” and “Winner-Take-All Politics: How Washington Made the Rich Richer—and Turned Its Back on the Middle Class.”

In addition, he was a resident of the Politics and History Section of the American Political Science Association from 2003-2004.

Awards

As a well-known political scientist, he has received numerous awards for his contributions to the field.  In 2015, Pierson received the Distinguished Contribution to Scholarship Award from the American Political Science Association (APSA). He received the Gladys M. Kammerer Award from APSA in 2011 for his book “Winner-Take-All Politics: How Washington Made the Rich Richer–and Turned Its Back on the Middle Class.”

In 2018, he was awarded the Woodrow Wilson Award by the American Political Science Association for his book “American Amnesia: How the War on Government Led Us to Forget What Made America Prosper.” He received the Leon Epstein Outstanding Book Award from the Political Organizations and Parties Section of APSA in 2004 for his book “Politics in Time: History, Institutions, and Social Analysis.”
