Early Life

Nick Mullens was born in Little Rock, Arkansas, the United States, on March 21, 1995. His full name is Nicholas Clayton Mullens and holds American nationality. His birth sign is Aries and is currently 28 years old. He belongs to the Caucasian ethnicity while his religious belief is unknown.

He was born to his father Mark Mullens and his mother Suzanne Mullens. In addition, his grandfather Ernie Tabor was a pitcher for the Philadelphia Phillies back in the 1950s.

He went to Spain Park High School, in Hoover. During his high school days, he played football for Spain Park, emerging as the team’s starting quarterback.

Moreover, he won the 2012 Gatorade Player of the Year title for the state of Alabama after throwing 3,649 yards and 40 touchdowns with only seven interceptions during his senior season. Moreover, he finished his high school career with 8,605 throwing yards, the seventh-highest in AHSAA history.

College Career

After completing his high school graduation, he attend the University of Alabama at Birmingham. However, he changed course on national signing day following a last-minute visit to the University of Southern Mississippi, signing instead with the Golden Eagles.

He was the starting quarterback for the Southern Miss Golden Eagles from 2013 to 2016. Moreover, he had a successful college career, setting several school records for passing yards, completions, and touchdowns.

He began his career in 2013 with a 0-6 record and an 18-game losing streak. He was named the team’s starter for Game Seven. However, the team was outmatched by North Texas, who defeated them 55-14.

Mullens completed 12 of 31 passes for 210 yards and one touchdown. On November 30, 2013, he played an important part in assisting Southern Miss. Likewise, he passed for 1,776 yards as a freshman in 2013 and 2470 yards as a sophomore in 2014. He completed 331 of 521 passes (63.5%) for 4,476 yards and 38 touchdowns during the 2015 regular season.

Moreover, he had 11 starts in 2016 and completed 243 of 384 attempts for 3,272 yards and 24 touchdowns, averaging 297.5 yards per game. On October 1, 2016, he passed for a collegiate career-high 591 yards, four touchdowns, and one interception in a 44-28 win over Rice Owls.

Professional Career

San Francisco 49ers

After having a successful college career, Nick Mullens signed with the San Francisco 49ers as an undrafted free agent on 4th May 2017. Similarly, he began training camp as the fourth backup quarterback on the depth chart. On January 2, 2018, he signed a contract after spending his whole rookie season on the practice squad.

He was waived by the 49ers and signed to the practice squad the next day, September 1, 2018. On November 1, 2018, she was selected as the starter for the 40ers’ Week 9 game against the Oakland Raiders on Thursday Night Football. Furthermore, he ended the 2018 season with 2,277 passing yards, 13 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions.

During the 2019 season, he only appeared in one game. Moreover, his team reached Super Bowl LIV, but the team lost 31–20 to the Kansas City Chiefs. He finished the 2020 season with 2,437 passing yards, 12 touchdown passes, and 12 interceptions. During this season, he suffers a couple of injuries.

Philadelphia Eagles

He signed a one-year contract with Philadelphia on the 14th of June 2021. However, he was released by the Eagles on the 28th of August 2021.

Cleveland Browns

Cleveland Browns signed Mullens in its practice squad on September 1, 2021. He was promoted to the Browns’ active roster on October 21, 2021, before their game that evening, and then returned to the practice squad the following day.

Mullens was chosen as the starting quarterback for the Browns’ Week 15 game against the Las Vegas Raiders, following a COVID-19 epidemic in which other quarterbacks Baker Mayfield and Case Keenum tested positive.

In addition, the game was shifted from Saturday, December 18, to Monday, December 20, making it the first game of the season to be postponed due to COVID-19.

He completed a touchdown pass late in the fourth quarter to give the Browns the lead. Derek Carr then led a successful drive down the field, which culminated with the Raiders scoring a field goal and winning 16-14.

Mullens finished 20 of 30 passes for 147 yards and a score in the defeat before being demoted to the practice squad the following week.

Las Vegas Raiders and Minnesota Vikings

On the 4th of April 2022, he signed with the Raiders. He was traded to the Minnesota Vikings for a 2024 conditional seventh-round pick by the Raiders on the 22nd of August 2022. He signed a two-year contract extension with the Vikings on the 14th of March 2023.
