Shooting incident
She was reportedly seen fighting with a 15-year-old in a parking lot near Millikan High School on September 27, 2021, by a Long Beach school resource officer. In an attempt to stop the argument, the officer threatened the pair with pepper spray.
Mona left the scene with her boyfriend Rafeul Chowdhury and his brother, Shahriear Chowdhury, following the altercation. Mona sat in the passenger seat of a grey sedan parked outside a nearby shopping center.
However, as the vehicle drove away from the school, the officer fired two shots at it, injuring Mona Rodriguez. There were no armed passengers in the car, and none of them were high school students.

Rafeul and his brother could be heard screaming inside the car after realizing Mona was injured, according to video evidence on social media. She was rushed to Long Beach Memorial Medical Center right away. Sadly, Mona died eight days after being shot by a school officer near Millikan High School as the car she was a passenger in drove away.
During a press conference outside the hospital, Mona’s brother Iran Rodriguez requested that the officer be charged.
Long Beach Unified School District has nine full-time and two part-time safety officers, as well as four supervisors. The officials have no connection to the Long Beach Police Department.
Eddie F. Gonzalez
The shootout is said to be the first of its kind since the unit’s inception nearly three decades ago. The officer has been identified as Eddie F. Gonzalez, according to the Los Angeles Times.
He reportedly started working for the district earlier in 2021. Previously, the man served as a police officer in the Southern California cities of Los Alamitos and Sierra Madre, spending just a few months in each place. Moreover, Gonzalez was fired a week after the shooting.

He was charged with second-degree murder by LA County District Attorney Gascón in October for the shooting death of Rodriguez. On the 28th of July 2022, he was released from prison. He was held on $2 million bail after a judge ordered him to stand trial in the shooting death of Mona Rodriguez in January.
