Misty Copeland is a ballet dancer from the United States. Misty Copeland is the first African-American Woman to Serve as the ‘American Ballet Theatre Company’s Principal Dancer.
Early Life
Misty Copeland was born in Kansas City, Missouri, United States, on September 10, 1982. Her full name is Misty Danielle Copeland and she holds an American nationality. Misty Copeland was considered a prodigy who rose to success despite not learning ballet until the age of 13. In 1998, her ballet teachers and mother engaged in a custody fight. Meanwhile, Copeland, an award-winning dancer, received lucrative offers.
She filed for emancipation, while her mother sought restraining orders. After both parties discontinued legal procedures, Copeland returned home to learn with a new teacher who was a former ABT member.
In 1997, she received the Los Angeles Music Center Spotlight Award as the best dancer in Southern California. Following two summer workshops with ABT, she joined the Studio Company in 2000, the corps de ballet in 2001, and the ABT soloist program in 2007.

In addition to her dancing profession, she is a public speaker, celebrity spokeswoman, and stage performer. She has published two autobiographical books and narrated the documentary A Ballerina’s Tale, which chronicles her professional obstacles.
Time magazine named her one of the world’s 100 most important people in 2015, and she appeared on the cover. She danced on Broadway in On the Town, toured as a featured dancer for Prince, and starred on the reality television series “A Day in the Life, So You Think You Can Dance.”

The Boys & Girls Clubs of America awarded her its National Youth of the Year Ambassador in 2013. In 2014, she was appointed to the President’s Council on Fitness, Sports, and Nutrition. Similarly, she was honoured at the Dance Magazine Awards in 2014.
