Early Life

Metro Boomin came into the world on the 16th of September 1993, in St. Louis, Missouri, the United States of America. He is 30 years old and holds American citizenship. Regarding his academic career, he attended Parkway North High School’ in St. Louis County. Moreover, he started playing bass guitar in his middle-school band.

When he was in seventh grade, his mother bought him a laptop and he acquired a copy of the music production software ‘FruityLoops’ and started creating beats on his laptop. Later, he went to Morehouse College Atlanta to study Business Management, but dropped out after one semester, to enhance his music career.

Professional Career

At 16 years old,  Metro Boomin began his music career as a producer in 2009. He has produced tracks for local Atlanta artists. Meanwhile, he rose to fame after working on Future’s “Honest” album in 2014, which featured his production on the hit song “Karate Chop.”

After this, he went on to produce for a variety of artists, including Drake, Gucci Mane, and 21 Savage. He gained mainstream success after producing the song “Tuesday” by iLoveMakonnen and Drake, which reached number 12 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100.

In 2015, Metro Boomin released his debut mixtape, “19 & Boomin,” which featured collaborations with several up-and-coming artists.

Following that, he produced the U.S. top-20 singles “Jumpman” by Drake and Future and “Low Life” by Future featuring the Weeknd before attaining his first number-one with “Bad and Boujee” by Migos.

He was then followed by Post Malone’s “Congratulations” Kodak Black’s “Tunnel Vision” Future’s “Mask Off” 21 Savage’s “Bank Account”, and his second U.S. number one “Heartless” by the Weeknd.

Recent Works

Later, he released the collaborations “Savage Mode” (2016) and “Savage Mode II” (2020) with 21 Savage, “DropTopWop” (2017) with Gucci Mane, “Perfect Timing” (2017) with Nav, and “Double or Nothing” (2017) with Big Sean.

In 2018, he released his debut studio album “Not All Heroes Wear Capes” and later its follow-up, “Heroes & Villains” (2022), both debuted at number one on the U.S. Billboard 200. Later, Boomin produced the single “Creepin” alongside The Weeknd and 21 Savage, which reached the top ten in several countries, including the U.S. and the United Kingdom.

On the 2nd of December 2022, he released his second studio album “Heroes & Villains” and on the 30th of November, he released an accompanying short film preview for the album. Moreover, the album was received by audiences, with many considering it Metro’s best work to date and complimenting the production and featured artists’ performances.

Back in 2016, he won the BMI R&B/Hip-Hop Awards for the Producer of the Year category. He won the 2017 BMI R&B/Hip-Hop Awards for the Producer of the Year category. Recently, he was nominated for the 2023 Grammy Awards for Album of the Year.
