Max Pacioretty is a professional ice hockey player from the United States. Max Pacioretty plays from the left winger position for the Carolina Hurricanes of the National Hockey League (NHL).

Early Life

Max Pacioretty was born on the 20th of November 1988, in New Canaan, Connecticut, in the United States of America. He is 35 years old as of 2023 and holds American nationality. He has a horoscope of Scorpio and belongs to a mixed ethnicity of Italian-Mexican descent. His birth name is Maximillian Kolenda Pacioretty.

Coming toward his parents, he is the son of Raymond Pacioretty (father) and Ana Pacioretty (mother). Regarding his parent’s profession, he has not yet disclosed it. His paternal grandmother is a French Canadian while his mother is of Mexican origin.

She had grown up in Mexico and was unfamiliar with ice skating, but given Pacioretty’s high energy as a child, she took him to a rink to burn it off. Education and Early Career

Pacioretty played for the New York Rangers junior ice hockey club and practiced in the 2002 Quebec International Pee-Wee Hockey Tournament. He went to New Canaan High School and played for the school.

He led the state in points during his freshman year. Later, he moved on to The Taft School in Watertown, Connecticut. Then, he played junior hockey for the Sioux City Musketeers of the United States Hockey League (USHL) for one season in 2006–07.

After this, he was picked by the Montreal Canadiens in the first round, 22nd overall, of the 2007 NHL Entry Draft. The pick had previously been acquired by the Canadiens in a trade with the San Jose Sharks.

During the 2007-2008 season, he played 36 games for the University of Michigan, scoring 15 goals and accruing 38 points. On July 17, 2008, he and the Canadiens agreed to a three-year, entry-level contract.

Professional Career

Montreal Canadiens

Max Pacioretty made his NHL debut with the Canadiens on the 2nd of January 2009 and scored his first NHL shot in a 4-1 loss to the New Jersey Devils. Later, he was called up for the second time to the NHL on the 12th of December 201, after beginning the 2010-2011 season as a member of the Hamilton Bulldogs of the American Hockey League (AHL). It is the top minor league affiliate of the Canadiens.

He suffered an injury following a hit by Boston Bruins defenseman Zdeno Chára on the 8th of March 2011. As a result, he was placed on the beach.

In the 2011–12 season, Max Pacioretty made a full recovery and returned to the Canadiens. He finished the season with a career-high 33 goals and 32 assists in 79 games, also winning the Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy for “perseverance, sportsmanship, and dedication to hockey.” He extended his contract with the Canadiens for a six-year, $27 million, on the 12th of August 2012.

On the 18th of September 2015, he was named the 29th captain in Canadiens history after going without a captain in the 2014–15 season with the departure of Brian Gionta. He played for the Canadiens from 2008 to 2018, serving as team captain during his last three seasons with the team.

Vegas Golden Knights

On September 10, 2018, Pacioretty got exchanges for Tomas Tatar, Nick Suzuki, and a 2019 second-round draught selection and was sent to the Vegas Golden Knights. Later, the Vegas Golden Knights signed him a four-year, $28 million contract extension.

In his first season with the Golden Knights, he had a strong campaign, recording 22 goals and 40 assists for a total of 62 points in 66 games played. He helped lead the team to the playoffs, where they advanced to the second round before being eliminated by the San Jose Sharks.

In the 2019-2020 season, he continued to perform well, scoring 32 goals and adding 34 assists for 66 points in 71 games played. He was named an NHL All-Star for the second time in his career.

Moreover, he was named the captain of the Golden Knights before the start of the 2020-2021 season, taking over the role from former captain Mark Stone. He continued to be a strong offensive contributor for the team, finishing the season with 24 goals and 27 assists for 51 points in 48 games played.

Carolina Hurricanes

Max Pacioretty and Dylan Coghlan get trades to the Carolina Hurricanes for future considerations on July 13, 2022. He suffered a torn Achilles tendon during an offseason workout just weeks into his tenure with Carolina, necessitating surgery and ruling him out for the first several months of the 2022-23 season.  He made his Hurricanes debut on January 5, 2023, in a 5-3 loss to the Nashville Predators.

Moreover, he scored two goals in his second game, a 5-4 shootout loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets, on January 7, 2023. Pacioretty was with the team for only five games before suffering a second Achilles tear on January 19 against the Minnesota Wild.

Max Pacioretty was nominated for the NHL All-Star Game on multiple occasions, including in 2012 and 2019. Moreover, he was nominated for the Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy in 2012 for his dedication and perseverance in coming back from a serious injury.

Moreover, he was a finalist for the Lady Byng Trophy, which is awarded for sportsmanship and gentlemanly conduct, in both 2012 and 2016. Similarly, he has been named the NHL’s First Star of the Week twice, first in 2012 and again in 2019.
