Matthieu Tota is a renowned pop singer, songwriter, actor, and dancer from France. Matthieu Tota gained fame after winning the third season of the French television series “Popstars” in 2003, which led to the formation of the boy band Linkup.

Early Life

Matthieu Tota was born in Strasbourg, Bas-Rhin, France, on the September 26, 1985. He is currently 38 years old and has a birth sign of Libra. In addition, he holds French nationality and belongs to Polish ethnicity.

Professional Career

Matthieu Tota appeared in M6’s third season of “Popstars,” a French talent reality program, in the fall of 2003. He was an audience and jury favorite and created a boy band named ‘Linkup’ with Lionel and Otis, who were both winners of 2003 Popstars.

The female victors were divided into the Diadems, consisting of Marylore, Angel, Pookie, Ophélie, and Alexandra. In the final conflict, the male band, which included Matthieu Tota, defeated the girl band Diadems, who came in second place.

Their first Linkup song “Mon Étoile” topped the French charts, and their first album Notre Étoile was modestly popular. Despite high sales, the second single “Une seconde d’éternité” was far less popular. However, Linkup split due to poor performance of sales on releases.

Solo Career

In 2004, Matthieu began preparing for a solo career, collaborating with producers Kore & Skalp. He released his debut solo album, originally titled Matt Pokora. In 2005, he was compelled to alter his name due to a lawsuit by French R&B singer Matt Houston. As a result, he re-released the album under his new stage name, M. Pokora.

M. Pokora’s debut single was widely popular. “Showbiz (The Battle)” peaked at number 10 in France and also charted in Belgium and Switzerland. His second single, “Elle me contrôle,” which featured Sweety, peaked at #6 in France and earned him two NRJ Music Awards. “Pas sans toi” was the third hit single released. The album released on Universal was certified Gold.

In January 2006, his second album “Player” debuted at the top of the French chart. To promote the record and capitalize on its popularity, M. Pokora embarked on a tour of over 30 French venues under the name “Player Tour,” culminating in a sold-out concert at Palais Omnisports de Paris-Bercy.

Continued releasing successful albums

After the Player Tour concluded, Pokora departed Universal and joined EMI France. He released his third album “MP3” on March 24, 2008, with 14 tracks, 12 of which were in English. The album peaked at number seven, with an estimated 200,000 physical sales and 151,000 extra downloads. The album was certified gold.

The fourth studio album “Mise à jour” was released on August 23, 2010. To promote the record, he scheduled a brief tour and a series of open-air performances rather than hall concerts. French singer M. Pokora released her fifth studio album “À la poursuite du bonheur.” In May 2012, he embarked on a national tour to promote to promote the album. The album debuted at number two on the French albums chart.

He released his sixth album “R.E.D. / Rythmes Extrêmement Dangereux” in February 2015. Similarly, he released his seventh album “My Way” in October 2016, topping the French Albums Chart in its initial week of release.

In April 2019, he released his eighth studio album, “Pyramide.” and reached the top of the French Chart upon its release. Similarly, he released his ninth studio album, “Epicentre” in November 2022.

Acting

Apart from singing, he has appeared couple of television roles. He voiced Duncan Rosenblatt, the main character in the Cartoon Network film “Firebreather,” in the French version in 2011. In 2013, he played Robin Hood in the comedy musical titled “Robin des Bois.”

Awards

Tota was nominated for several awards functions. Furthermore, he received an NRJ Music Award for a Francophone song. In 2020, he received the MTV Europe Music Award.
