Matt Leinart is a former quarterback NFL player and sports analyst from the United States. Matt Leinart played seven seasons in the NFL and now works as a studio analyst for Fox Sports’ college football.

Early Life

Matt Leinart is a 40-year-old American former NFL player. On the 11th of May 1983, he was born in Santa Ana, California, the United States. According to the astrological chart, he has a birth sign of Taurus and follows the Christian religion. His full name is Matthew Stephen Leinart.

He was born to his parents Bob Leinart (father) and Linda Leinart (mother). In addition, he grew up with his other brother Ryan who played baseball at Cal State Fullerton. When Matt was still young, his parents divorced, and lived with his mother after his parents divorced.

Matt, on the other hand, had a close relationship with his father, who encouraged him throughout his football career. He was born with strabismus, sometimes known as “crossed eyes,” in which his left eye was not properly aligned with his right.

The former footballer had surgery to correct the problem when he was three years old and wore special spectacles.

Matt Leinart – Education

In terms of his academics, he attended Mater Dei High School and played for the high school football team During his high school day, he won the Gatorade California high school football Player of the Year.

Later, he enrolled at the University of Southern California. From the University, he graduated with a 3.5 GPA and was twice named to the Pac-10 All-Academic first team. Additionally, he earned the Wuerffel Trophy for his community service and academic excellence.

Professional Career

Matt Leinart was selected as the tenth overall pick by the Arizona Cardinals in the 2006 NFL Draft. With 405 passing yards, he set an NFL rookie record. In his rookie season, he got quarterback ratings of 74 in November.

For the 2007 season, he started at quarterback. Leinart, on the other hand, fractured his left collarbone after being released by St. Louis Rams linebacker Will Witherspoon and was placed on injured reserve.

Due to the injury, his season was ended. After recovering from injuries, he played as a starting quarterback in the 2008 offseason. Kurt Warner reclaimed him after he was unable to perform well. He was also retained as a backup quarterback for the 2009 season by the Cardinals.

After Warner’s retirement, there was speculation that Leinart might take over as starting in 2010. He was released in September 2010 in favor of Anderson, Max Hall, and John Skelton. After being released by the Cardinals, Leinart signed a one-year deal with the Houston Texans to serve as Matt Schaub’s backup.

Injuries and currently working as a sports analyst

He appeared in 16 games during the 2010 season, whereas Leinart did not see any action. Moreover, he returned to Houston as a backup for the 2011 season. He suffered an injury to his right foot in week 10 of the 2011 season, allowing Leinart to play in games. However, he shattered his collarbone and was unable to play the rest of the season. The Texans released Leinart on March 12, 2012.

Furthermore, on May 1, 2012, the Oakland Raiders selected Leinart as a backup for his old college colleague, Carson Palmer. The Raiders did not re-sign him during the offseason. Furthermore, on August 25, 2013, the Buffalo Bills signed Leinart, who was released on August 30, 2013.

Leinart’s professional football career ended, and he quickly became a studio commentator. He is a Fox Sports 1 analyst on Big Noon Kickoff as of January 2023.

Some of his awards and recognition are the 2× AP national champion (2003, 2004), Heisman Trophy (2004), Walter Camp Award (2004), Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award (2005), Manning Award (2004), 2× Archie Griffin Award (2003, 2004), 2× First-team All-American (2004, 2005), 2× Quarterback of the Year (2004, 2005), and 2× Pac-10 Offensive Player of the Year (2004, 2005).
