His first wife Rachel Golinski along with his three daughters died on December 26, 2011, when his Tewantin home was engulfed by fire in the early morning. As of March 2012, Golinski was still recovering from severe burns at Royal Brisbane & Women’s Hospital, where his condition was described as “stable”.
In April 2013, Golinski made a comeback to the spotlight by cooking live on stage at the Jan Power Farmer’s Market in Brisbane’s downtown. According to Coroner Terry Ryan’s report from December 2015, a power board or Christmas lights were most likely to blame for the fire.
