Marcello Cesena made his acting with his first co-protagonist role in Luigi Pirandello’s “Henry IV,” alongside Giorgio Albertazzi. Pupi Avati offered him his first film role in “Una gita scuola” (1984). Following this experience, he will be directed by the Bolognese director in “Employees,” “History of Boys and Girls,” and “Magnificat.” Several seasons followed at Genoa’s Teatro dell’Archivolto when he began to develop his dramaturgy and humorous style.

He made his television debut in 1991, in the Rai 3 program “Avanzi,” and founding the Broncoviz group with his friends Maurizio Crozza, Carla Signoris, Ugo Dighero, and Mauro Pirovano, creating and starring in a successful series of commercial parodies, of which he takes care of the direction for the first time.

With the same training, he appeared in Rai 3 “Tunnel,” a humorous program presented by Serena Dandini in the early half of the 1990s.

The following year, he collaborated with Broncoviz to establish the television program Hollywood Party for Rai 3, in which he also performed as co-author and director. In 2003, he appeared on Marco Giusti’s program Cocktail d’amore, when he debuted as an imposter of designer Carla Fendi.

Direction and Writing

His directorial debut came in 1995 with the Italian-French-Spanish co-production Worse Than That You Die, which also starred Broncoviz and Spanish actress Rossy de Palma. In the following three years, he wrote and directed the television films “Nei centuries of centuries,” with Stefania Rocca, Leo Gullotta, and Maurizio Crozza; “Amiche really,” with Stefania Rocca and Simona Cavallari and “Double Secret,” a thriller, with Anna Galiena, all produced by Mediaset.

Moreover, in 2001, he wrote and directed his second movie “Mai dire Domenica,” which starred the Spanish actress Victoria Abril and Diego Abatantuono. In 2008, he directed “Il cosmo sul comò,” starring the comedy trio Aldo, Giovanni, and Giacomo. The film was one of the season’s top box-office successes. Meanwhile, since 1997, he has been depended upon to direct advertising campaigns for the most significant Italian companies.

Launched an advertising company and published his first novel

He launched the advertising company Fantasmino Produzioni in 2010 and has since developed numerous well-known advertising campaigns for iconic Italian brands. From January 2012 until 2013, he returned to Rai and appeared on Victoria Cabello’s program “Quelli che il calcio.”

In 2017, he appeared alongside Gialappa in the “Rai dire Niùs” program, where he serves as creative director and resumes the series Sensualità a corte. In the 2021 season, Jean Claude and Madre return to Mediaset as part of the Honolulu program. He released his first novel, ‘A Safe Place for Sperling & Kupfer,’ on May 2, 2023.
