Early Life

After completing his graduation, Manu Raju began working on the assignment desk at NBC-15 in Madison, Wisconsin but moved to Washington D.C. He quickly landed a job as the environmental policy reporter for Inside Washington Publishers and then worked for Congressional Quarterly, The Hill newspaper, and Politico, where he reported for seven years before joining CNN in September 2015.
During his time at CNN, he was able to uncover politicians’ deepest secrets and broke the news of the 2013 government shutdown. He also covered Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell’s reelection campaign in 2014.

Meanwhile, in 2017, he broke the story of Tom Price’s unethical stock trade. He and Jeremy Herb published an exclusive report on how the Trump campaign obtained hacked Wikileaks documents, but CNN dropped the story after Julian Assange claimed it was false.
He also covered the GOP establishment’s struggle with Donald Trump, and in 2017 he was featured on the cover of India Abroad newspaper, which dubbed him the “King of the Hill” for his reporting on key political figures in the United States and Capitol Hill.
On national television, he has interviewed House Speakers Paul Ryan and Nancy Pelosi, Republican Senate Leader Mitch McConnell, former Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid, and Senators Marco Rubio, John McCain, and Lindsey Graham.

Through his successful journalism career, he has earned several awards and honors. He won the prestigious Merriman Smith Memorial Award for presidential reporting under deadline pressure in 2012, as part of a team of four reporters, for coverage of the 2011 debt ceiling crisis.
Three years later, he was awarded first place by the Society of Professional Journalists in D.C. for his coverage of the 2014 midterm elections, as well as the Folio Eddie Award for a feature profile on Senator Elizabeth Warren. Raju was then awarded the 2016 Joan Shorenstein Barone Award for excellence in Washington-based political and Congressional affairs reporting for his coverage of Congress and campaign politics.

CNN had to retract one of Raju’s exclusive reports. Which claimed that the Trump campaign, including Donald Trump Jr, had access to hacked Wikileaks documents, but this was later proven to be false. As a result, Donald Trump Jr. and Julian Assange criticized Raju. They demanded that Raju be corrected. CNN, on the other hand, rejected it because Raju had strictly adhered to CNN’s editorial standards process.
