Professional Life

During the 1995–96, Manu Ginóbilimade his debut in the Argentine basketball league season. Fortunately, he was drafted by ‘Club Estudiantes de Bahía Blanca’. To play for the Italian club ‘Viola Reggio Calabria, he moved to Europe, in 1998.
In the 1999 ‘NBA’ draft, he entered and was selected by the ‘San Antonio Spurs’ in the 2nd round of the draft. He returned to Italy, as he did not sign with the ‘Spurs’ but returned to Italy. After that, he played for another Italian club called ‘Virtus Segafredo Bologna.’

He helped to win the ‘Italian Basketball Cup’, ‘The Italian League Championship,’ and ‘EuroLeague, in 2001. From 2002 to 2003 NBA season, he was signed by ‘San Antonio Spurs’. He was named to the ‘All-Rookie Second Team, at the end of the season. Similarly, he won the ‘Western Conference Rookie of the Month’ award. As he entered the 2003 NBA Playoffs, he started playing regularly for ‘Spurs.
Due to his performance, he won Argentina’s Sportsperson of the Year award. He was on the top when the Spurs’ entered the 2004 playoffs. He assumed the role of the 6th man to provide the much-needed bench strength to the team, in the next season. For the 2007 NBA playoffs, the San Antonio Spurs were qualified. The team went on to beat ‘The Cleveland Cavaliers’ in the finals to win its 4th championship. During the 2007–08 season, he couldn’t prevent the ‘Spurs’ from losing in the Conference Finals against ‘The Los Angeles Lakers.’
He won the ‘Sixth Man of the Year Award’ and was named to the ‘All-NBA Third Team, in 2008. During the 2008–09 season, he only played 44 games throughout the season, as he suffered multiple injuries. Thus, he did not play during the 2009 playoffs. ‘The San Antonio Spurs’ extended his contract to $39 million, on April 9, 2010.
He was named in the ‘NBA All-Star Game’, at the end of the 2010-11 season. Later, he signed a 2-year deal with the ‘Spurs, on July 11, 2013.  Similarly, he renewed his contract with the ‘Spurs.’ on July 20, 2015. And, on January 14, 2016, he played his 900th ‘NBA’ game for the ‘Spurs’.  He was the first player in ‘The NBA’ to score 20 points or more in multiple games, in January 2018.

National Career

At the 1998 ‘FIBA World Championship’ in Athens, he made his debut for the senior team. At the 2002 FIBA World Championship, he helped his national team win the silver medal. Moreover, at the 2004 Athens Summer Olympics,’ he helped his team win the gold medal for the first time in 16 years.
His national team was represented by him at the 2006 ‘FIBA World Championship. It was before becoming the flag bearer for Argentina at the 2008 ‘Summer Olympics’ in Beijing, China.
