Before entering in the entertainment industry, Mahira Kakkar polished her acting skills by performing in theatres. She made her television debut in the 2007 television series called ‘Law & Order: Criminal Intent’ by portraying a small role.
Later, she appeared in the television series ‘The Big C’ (2011). That same year, she started in the OCBS crime mystery drama television series ‘Blue Bloods.’ In this series, she played a minor role as Dr. Gupta which was appreciated by audiences and earned her early fame.
Over the course, she has been cast in several television series such as ‘The Blacklist,’ ‘Louie,’ ‘Odd Mom Out,’ ‘Friends From College,’ ‘New Amsterdam,’ and ‘Orange Is the New Black.’
In 2020, she earned her first lead role in the Netflix series ‘A Suitable Boy’ along with Tanya Maniktala and Ishaan Khattar. Similarly, she joined the cast of Jeff Rake’s created mystery sci-fi drama television series ‘Manifest’ as Dr. Aria Gupta and appeared for 11 episodes. She has appeared in the podcast series ‘Uncovidable’ (2020), and ‘Help’ (2022).

She made her movie debut in the 2013 film ‘Hank and Ashaa’ portraying the lead role of Asha. For her performance in the movie, she earned many recognitions including the Napa Valley Film Festival Awards 2013.
