Later, the unit teamed up with the ‘International Republican Institute’ for a controversial grant program.

The following month, the ‘New York Times’ slammed her work on Iran and Syria, claiming that the unit’s clandestine operations may spark a conflict. By May, the group had come to an end.

Post–State Department career

Liz was named one of three co-chairs of the 2008 ‘Republican presidential campaign by Fred Thompson in June 2007. She was named senior foreign policy advisor to Mitt Romney’s presidential campaign on January 27, 2008.

In addition, she spoke out against the law prohibiting homosexual marriages in an interview with ‘MSNBC’ in 2009.

She also suggested that the federal government give homosexual couples extra-legal perks. Liz argued that states, not the federal government, should decide on the matter, even though her answer was unclear and did not explicitly specify whether she backed homosexual weddings or not.

Her stance on homosexuality sparked debate. In an ad made by the ‘American Principles Fund,’ a conservative group targeted Hillary. Many saw her anti-gay marriage position as support for her sister, Mary, who was dating Heather Poe at the time. In 2012, the two married.

Non-profit organization and guest host

She founded the non-profit organization ‘Keep America Safe’ with neoconservative political analyst William Kristol and political activist Deborah Burlingame in October 2009. They were all board of directors members.

The goal of the organization was to keep residents informed about national security problems. The foundation was heavily criticized, particularly by conservative attorneys.

In August 2011, she published ‘In My Time: A Personal and Political Memoir,’ which she co-wrote with her father. She joined ‘Fox News’ in January 2012 as a guest host on ‘Hannity’ and ‘Fox News Sunday.’

Her candidacy was widely panned, largely due to a dramatic shift in her position on same-sex weddings. She and Mary have never agreed on homosexual marriages, as she revealed on ‘Fox News Sunday,’ resulting in a feud between them.
