Liam Gallagher is a popular British singer and songwriter. Liam Gallagher gained fame as the lead vocalist of the rock band Oasis from 1991 to 2009 and later fronted the rock band Beady Eye from 2009 to 2014, before starting a successful solo career in 2017.
Early Life
On the 21st of September 1972, Liam Gallagher was born, in Manchester, England. His birth name is William John Paul Gallagher, and he is 50 years old as of 2022. Regarding his musical career, Liam Gallagher began his career as a vocalist through his school friend’s band named, The Rain. However, the band only rehearsed once a week and did not get many gigs. Additionally, they changed the band name to Oasis.
They played a four-song set at King Tut’s Wah Wah Hut in Glasgow, where Alan McGee of Creation Records discovered them and signed them for a six-album deal in 1993. The band released its debut album, ‘Definitely Maybe’ on August 28, 1994. Their debut album became the fastest-selling British debut album of all time.
On the 2nd of October 1995, the band released their second album, ‘(What’s the Story) Morning Glory?’ Additionally, the album became even more successful, becoming the third-best-selling album in British history.
On the 21st of August 1997, they released their third album ‘Be Here Now’ and the album set a new record as the fastest-selling album in UK chart history. That same year, their first album ‘Definitely Maybe’ was named the 14th greatest album of all time in a “Music of the Millennium” poll conducted by HMV.
The Oasis band split up
Following the year 2000, their two band members left the Oasis band during the recording of their fourth album, ‘Standing on the Shoulders of Giants.’ Their fourth album received mixed reviews.
In the year 2002, the band released their fifth album, ‘Heathen Chemistry.’ Similarly, their sixth album, ‘Don’t Believe the Truth’ was released on the year 2005. Their sixth album won two Q Awards: a special People’s Choice Award and Best Album.
In addition, they released their seventh album in 2008 named ‘Dig Out Your Soul’ which became the second-fastest-selling album of the year, selling 90,000 copies. The Oasis band split with Noel Gallagher, a songwriter who left the band in 2009.
Before splitting up, the band released studio albums, two live albums, five compilation albums, six video albums, one extended play, and twenty-eight singles which include one double single, nineteen promotional singles, and thirty-six music videos.
Beady Eye band
After the Oasis got split, the remaining band members then formed the band named, Beady Eye. The band released their debut single name ‘Bring the Light’ in 2010, and that same year, he also launched Pretty Green, a clothing line.
In 2011, the band released their first album, Different Gear, Still Speeding, and led the Japan Tsunami Disaster Relief Gig at O2 Academy Brixton. They released their second album, ‘BE’ in 2013 and started a tour as secret gigs at Glastonbury. Through social media platforms, Gallagher announced that Beady Eye had disbanded in 2014. Before getting split, the band released two studio albums, one extended play, eleven singles, and ten music videos.
Gallagher’s Solo Career
After the band split, Liam Gallagher began his solo career. In 2o17, he released his debut solo album, ‘As You Were.’ His first solo album gained the highest single-week vinyl sales in 20 years, with 16,000 copies sold.
He released his first solo single, ‘Wall of Glass’ with an accompanying music video that same year. He also performed in the 2018 Live Forever at the Brit Awards as a tribute to the victims of the 2017 Manchester Arena attack. In 2019, he released several singles like ‘Shockwave,’ ‘The River,’ ‘Once,’ and ‘One of Us.’
That same year, he released his second solo album ‘Why Me? Why Not.’ His second album earned positive reviews from music critics. Additionally, that same year, he played an acoustic set for MTV Unplugged in Hull City Hall. He released a live EP named ‘Acoustic Sessions’ which contained 7 live acoustic performances of his solo and Oasis songs and the original demo version of “Once” in the year 2020.

During the worldwide epidemic COVID-19 lockdown, he posted several humorous video clips to Twitter of him singing various Oasis hits with reworked lyrics to advise his fans to wash their hands. During the same time, he released his MTV Unplugged performance as his first live album, MTV Unplugged (Live At Hull City Hall), containing 10 of the 17 songs played.
He released his third solo album, “C’mon You Know” in 2022. Later, he released his fourth single ‘Diamond In The Dark’ on the 26th of May 2022. Similarly, he released his second EP, ‘Diamond In The Dark,’ which was released on the 29th of July 2022, and features a cover of “Bless You”, originally recorded by John Lennon.
His fifth single from the album titled “Too Good For Giving Up” in partnership with mental health organization Talk Club UK was released on the 10th of October 2022.
Other Works
Apart from his musical career, he is also active in the film industry. He along with Stephen Fry started the 2015 short film for Comic Relief named ‘National Treasures.’
Similarly, he appeared in the George Michael documentary ‘Freedom’ and also made an appearance alongside his mother Peggy, and son Gene in a celebrity edition of the Channel 4 series ‘Gogglebox’ in aid of Stand Up to Cancer. In addition, he released a documentary named ‘As It Was,’ (2019) following his life after Beady Eye and his life leading up to his solo debut album As You Were.

With his band Oasis, the band has earned eight NME Awards. As a solo career, he has won the 2017 Q Award for Best Live Act category.
