Professional Life

In 1990, Lee Roy Parnell released his self-titled debut album for Arista Records. His album has 3 singles titled singles “Crocodile Tears”, “Oughta Be a Law” and “Family Tree”. Later on,  a video for “Mexican Money” was created and released, but the song was not released to the radio. Soon, in 1992, he came up with his breakthrough album titled Love Without Mercy. Its single titled “The Rock” fell short of the Top 40, and the next 3 singles all reached the Top Ten.

His third album for the Arista label titled On the Road came up in 1993. It also produced 2 top-10 hits: the title track and “I’m Holding My Own”. Both of them successfully banged in No. 6 and No. 3 respectively. Fortunately, his album contained a No. 17-peaking. Therefore, the single from On the Road, “The Power of Love”, peaked at No. 51. In 1995 finally came up with his 4th album titled We All Get Lucky Sometimes.

The album was also his first for Career Records, then a newly formed subsidiary of Arista Nashville. This album’s lead-off single “A Little Bit of You” reached No. 2.  Moreover, he came wu with Every Night’s a Saturday Night which was his final release for Career Records. Therefore, it was his 1st album since his debut release that did not produce a Top 10 hit.

He released his final album for the Arista label, 1999’s Hits and Highways Ahead. It was after Career Records was merged back into Arista Nashville. Moving on, he signed to Vanguard Records and released the album Tell the Truth, in 2000. Unfortunately, the album’s only single, “South by Southwest”, failed to chart. In 2006, he came up with his next album Back to the Well on Universal South Records. Besides, playing guitar, he also has co-writing several of his songs.

He has written songs for Too Much, and That’s My Story” from 1992 and 1993 respectively. For the cover of Merle Haggard’s “Workin’ Man’s Blues”, he and Steve collaborated with Diamond Rio. In addition, he played slide guitar on Mary Chapin Carpenter’s late-1994 Number One hit “Shut Up and Kiss Me”. In 1977, he added slide guitar to Delbert McClinton’s “Sending Me Angels”. Moreover, he was credited with playing slide guitar on David Lee Murphy’s No. 46-peaking single “Inspiration”, in late 2004.
