Lee Hsien Loong is a Singaporean politician and former army general to the Prime Minister of Singapore. Following his graduation from Harvard, Lee joined the Singapore Armed Forces and quickly rose through the ranks. Lee joined the ruling People’s Action Party which was a center-right political party led by his father Lee Kuan Yew. In the same year, Lee became elected as a Member of Parliament from the Teck Ghee Single Member Constituency and also became the Minister of State at the Ministry of Trade and Ministry and Ministry of Defense. He was only 32 years old at that time.

Likewise, in another year, Lee became the Chairman of the Economic Committee which was set to retrieve the economy of Singapore. Similarly in the year 1986, Lee became a member of the PAP Executive Committee and also the Chairman of the PAP Youth Committee. Moreover, his career in politics took a breakthrough when his father Lee Kuan Yew stepped down from his long-held position of Prime minister. He was appointed as one of the Deputy Prime Ministers in the new setup. Similarly, he also retains the Trade and Commercial portfolio.

However, in the year 1992, Lee gave up his Trade and Commerce portfolio after being diagnosed with lymphoma and underwent long treatment. However, later he retains his position as the Deputy Prime Minister. Moreover, on 12th August 2004, Goh Chok Tong stepped down from his position as the Prime Minister of Singapore, Lee then became his successor in the position.
