Konnor McClain is a professional American gymnast. Konnor McClain won the 2019 City of Jesolo Trophy, the 2019 U.S. Classic Junior All-Around Championship, and the 2022 U.S. National Championship.
Early Life and Education
Konnor McClain was born to her father Marc McClain and her mother Lorinda McClain. She was born on February 1, 2005, in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA. Her age is presently 18 years old (as of 2023). Likewise, she has three siblings named Olivia McClain, Cole McClain, and Deuce McClain.
When she was three years old, her family moved to West Virginia. Valeri Liukin, her coach, oversees her training at WOGA in Plano, Texas. Likewise, she holds American nationality and is of an Afro-American ethnic background. According to her birthdate, she was born under the zodiac sign Aquarius. Konnor follows the Christian religion.
Regarding her education, she is pursuing her studies in fire science at Louisiana State University.
Gymnastics Career
J.O. & HOPEs
2015-2016
McClain participated in the Junior Olympic Program in 2015 and competed in several HOPE events. She participated in the 2015 HOPES Championships, where she finished fourth overall, fifth on vault, second on the balance beam (behind Ciena Alipio), and seventh on floor exercise. She competed in the 2016 Hopes Championships, winning the all-around competition, the vault, the balance beam, the uneven bars, and the floor exercise.

Junior Elite
2017
At the Brestyans National Qualifier in 2017, McClain met the requirements for junior elite status. She additionally participated in the Parkettes National Qualifier and the KPAC National Qualifier. She made her professional debut at the American Classic, finishing 21st overall. She competed at the 2017 U.S. Classic in late July, where she tied Kayla DiCello for 24th in the all-around.
2018
Early in 2018, McClain participated in events at the Buckeye National Qualifier and International Gymnix, where she finished second to Irina Alexeeva to win silver in the floor exercise. She participated in the American Classic at the beginning of July, where she finished behind Kayla DiCello in the all-around competition. Later on in the month, she competed at the 2018 U.S. Classic, where she only participated in three events but finished third behind Jordan Bowers and DiCello on the uneven bars.
Furthermore, McClain participated in the 2018 U.S. National Gymnastics Championships in August. She placed fifth overall and took home the gold medal on the balance beam. She was consequently given her first spot on the national team.
2019
Kayla DiCello, Ciena Alipio, and Sophia Butler were also named to the team in February that will compete at the 2019 City of Jesolo Trophy in Italy. McClain was also named to the team. In addition to winning gold in the all-around, ahead of Russian Vladislava Urazova, and on vault, ahead of Viktoria Listunova and teammate Alipio, she also assisted the USA in winning team silver behind Russia. She also placed third on the floor exercise, trailing Listunova and Urazova, and fourth on the uneven bars, behind Urazova and Russian Elena Gerasimova.
Additionally, McClain participated in the Junior World Championships Trials in June and finished fourth in the all-around, earning a spot as the Junior World Championships’ alternate. She participated in the U.S. Classic in July and took home gold medals on the vault, balance beam, and all-around.
Moreover, McClain took part in the American National Championships in August. She finished the first day of the competition in first place with a score of 56.500. She achieved a score of 56.100 on the second day of competition, bringing her total combined score to 112.600, giving her the silver medal in the all-around behind Kayla DiCello. McClain placed sixth in the floor exercise while winning gold on the balance beam, silver on the vault behind DiCello, and silver on the uneven bars behind Olivia Greaves. The young national team now includes her.
2020
Alongside Skye Blakely, Kaliya Lincoln, and Katelyn Jong, McClain was chosen to compete at International Gymnix in Montreal in March. While there, she not only helped the USA win team gold, but she also took home individual gold in each of the four event finals and silver in the all-around behind Blakely.
Senior Elite
2021
Gymnasts born in 2005, including McClain, were announced to be eligible for the postponed 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo 2020. Gymnasts born in 2004 and earlier were the only ones eligible in the past. At the 2021 Winter Cup, McClain competed in her first senior competition on beam and vault. She placed fourth on the beam and third on the vault, respectively. The Peacock documentary series Golden: The Journey of USA’s Elite Gymnasts featured McClain as one of five gymnasts. McClain abruptly left her West Virginia gym after a lackluster showing at the U.S. Classic and relocated to Texas to train at WOGA under Valeri Liukin.
She then announced that she would withdraw from the US National Championships and the Olympic Trials, putting an end to her bid for the 2020 Summer Olympics and refocusing on 2024. McClain verbally agreed to participate in the LSU Tigers gymnastics team in August. Leanne Wong, Kayla DiCello, and eMjae Frazier were also chosen to compete at the 2021 World Championships with McClain. She was subsequently reinstated to the national team. McClain placed eighth on the balance beam during qualifying at the World Championships, but her teammates Wong and DiCello outperformed her, preventing her from moving on to the event final.
2022
McClain competed at the 2022 Winter Cup and defeated Skye Blakely and eMjae Frazier to take first place in the all-around competition. She was consequently chosen to compete alongside Blakely, Frazier, Nola Matthews, and Ashlee Sullivan at the upcoming DTB Pokal Team Challenge in Stuttgart. McClain contributed to Team USA’s victory at the DTB Pokal Team Challenge. She placed second to Angela Andreoli in the floor exercise but took home gold on the balance beam.
Alongside Frazier, Shilese Jones, Zoe Miller, and Elle Mueller, McClain participated in the 2022 City of Jesolo Trophy in April. Together, they scored 164.065 to win the team competition. With a score of 54.999, McClain took first place in the individual all-around competition. She also won gold medals on the balance beam (13.850) and floor exercise (13.990). McClain took part in the National Championships in August. She placed first in the all-around, fourth on floor exercise, eighth on uneven bars, and first on the balance beam.
