King Von was a young American rapper. King Von is also popular as “Grandson” or “King” instead of his real name.

Early Life and Childhood

King Von was born on August 9, 1994, and his age was 29 years old when he passed away on November 6, 2020.

His real birth name is Dayvon Daquan Bennett and his birthplace is in Chicago. He is also famous as Von and Grandson besides his stage name King Von.

He spent most of his life in Parkway Gardens, aka “O’Block”. It is located at the corner of 64th and Martin Luther King Drive on the South Side of Chicago.

The rapper grew up as childhood friends with rapper Lil Durk and fellow Parkway Gardens resident Chief Keef.

Furthermore, he was known by his nickname “Grandson”. It refers to David Barksdale, the founder of the Black Disciples. He was allegedly a member of the Black Disciples.

When he was in jail, many people who knew David said that he reminded them of the gang leader.

His way of handling himself in the streets as well as his general demeanor reminded these people of the gang leader and hence he got the nickname, Grandson.

Moreover, at the young age of 16, he went to jail for the first time. This was the beginning of a long course of legal troubles for the young rapper.

Untimely Death

On 6 November 2020, King was involved in an altercation outside an Atlanta nightclub. It happened around 3:20 a.m. between two groups of men.

One of them was associated with rapper Quando Rondo. The dispute quickly escalated into gunfire.

Following the gunfire, two off-duty police officers attempted to break up the shootout with additional gunfire. After being shot, King was subsequently transported to a hospital in critical condition.

Eventually, the young rapper passed away the same day after surgery. King was only 26 years old at the time of his demise.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation initially reported that the gunfire incident resulted in the demise of three people. However, an Atlanta police spokesman said that only two of them died.

Additionally, four people were wounded and among them, one was placed in police custody for the murder of King.

Later, the suspect was identified as Timothy Leeks who was at the young age of 22 years. Moreover, on 15 November 2020, King was buried in his hometown, Chicago, Illinois.

The late successful rapper had earned a decent amount of money throughout his career. Likewise, his net worth was calculated at about $750k as of 2022.

Relationship Status

He was in a relationship with a fellow rapper Asian Doll when he appeared in a music video for her track about the artist “Grandson.” It was back on Valentine’s Day 2019.

Legal issues

On 21 November 2012, police arrested him and booked him into Cook County jail. It was for unlawful possession of a firearm.

Then on 24 July 2014, the rapper was arrested in connection with a shooting in May 2014.

The shooting resulted in the death of several men and the injury of two others. The rapper was charged with 1 count of murder and 2 counts of attempted murder.

The incident took place at 5700 South Lasalle Street in Englewood, Chicago. After witnesses failed to testify, the authority dropped all charges against Von. Toward the end of 2017, King walked free.

Lil Durk revealed in an interview with him on the Breakfast Club that he pressed him to become a rapper so that the young rapper could stay out of any more trouble.

Furthermore, in June 2019, the rappers (King and Lil Durk) both got arrested in connection with a shooting in Atlanta.

They appeared before a judge in a Fulton County courtroom. It was for a probable cause hearing.

There, the prosecutors claimed that the rappers’ duo robbed and shot a man outside a popular Atlanta drive-in on 5 February 2019.

Career and Professional Life

He was a young rapper and songwriter originally from Chicago, Illinois. King signed to Lil Durk’s record labels, “Only the Family” and “Empire Distribution”.

He was active as a rapper from 2018 till his untimely demise in the year 2020.

In the year 2014, he was accused of a shooting that killed one and wounded another. Soon after proving his innocence, he stepped into rapping.

He collaborated with Lil Durk on singles. Lil Durk then eventually signed King to his OTF (Only The Family) entertainment label.

On  6 December 2018, he released his single Crazy Story and it soon became his breakout single. In May 2019, he released the song Crazy Story 2.0 featuring Lil Durk.

He also released a subsequent music video later on 20 May 2019. This song peaked at number four on the Bubbling Under Hot 100 chart.

2019

On 13 September 2019, he released a third rendition of the single called Crazy Story Pt. 3. Then on 9 July 2019, Lil Durk and King Von released their collaborative single Like That.

Similarly, on 2 September 2019, he released his single What It’s Like. This song appeared on his album “Grandson, Vol. 1”.

On 19 September 2019, the rapper then released his 15-track mixtape called “Grandson, Vol. 1” which also featured Lil Durk on a pair of tracks.

Then on 16 November 2019, the rapper released his single “2 A.M”. Similarly, on 29 November 2019, the young rapper released his single “Rolling”.

On 10 January 2020, he appeared in Detroit rapper Sada Baby’s single Press.

2020

On 21 February 2020, the young rapper released Took Her to the O. This became one of his most popular songs.

He also included this single on his mixtape called “Levon James” which he released on 6 March 2020.

Moreover, on 29 April 2020, the young rapper released his single Grandson for President. He followed this with a music video release for Broke Opps.

It is a song from “Levon James”. He also released another single called Why He Told on 27 July 2020.

Following this, the young rapper released another popular single All These Niggas. This single featured Chicago rapper Lil Durk. He also released another single called How It Go on 26 August 2020.

On 9 October 2020, he released I Am What I Am. This single featured New York rapper Fivio Foreign. He also released his debut studio album “Welcome to O’Block”. He released it on 30 October 2020. It is a 16-track album.
