Kimberly Schlapman along with her friend Fairchild moved to Nashville, Tennessee, with the hope of building individual careers as vocalists. She worked as a waitress in between auditions for record companies at the time. Kimberly and Karen formed the duet ‘Little Big Town’ in the late 1990s. They were eventually joined by Jimi Westbrook and, lastly, Philip Sweet, who suggested the band’s name.
Little Big Town earned their first big recording contract with Mercury Records in 1999, however, they were unable to release any singles or albums during this period. They were later dismissed by the company and signed with Sony Music’s Monument Records in 2002. Soon after, they launched their first album, with singles “Don’t Waste My Time” and “Everything Changes” reaching the top of the music charts.
Continued her successful career
After a few more singles and music albums, the band began to gain the traction it desired. She contributed her soprano voice to the band’s characteristic harmony style singing. Kimberly has already cooperated with other singing legends such as Alicia Keys and Taylor Swift as a member of the band.
In the 58th Annual Grammy Awards, her album ‘Pain Killer’ and the single ‘Girl Crush’ were nominated for best album and best song in the country music category, respectively. She, as part of the group, received the award for best country group song for ‘Girl Crush’. The trio previously won a Grammy for their hit ‘Pontoon’ in 2013.
Kimberly is a major culinary aficionado, and she aired her own show titled ‘Kimberly’s Simply Southern’ on the Great American Country channel in September 2012. The show was a success, and audiences fell in love with her Southern charm right away. She eventually released her debut cookbook, ‘OH GUSSIE!
