His adaption of the German rock musical Linie 1 was first performed in 1994 and has been given over 1,000 times in Korea, as well as being performed in China and Japan.

Kim received the Goethe Medal in 2007. Moreover, he was nominated for Grand Prize in Theater in the 2001 Baeksang Arts Award. Likewise, he was nominated for the Lifetime Achievement Award in the 2013 Korean Music Award and the Order of Cultural Merit in the 2018 Korean Popular Culture and Arts Awards.
